I saw my first ever Austin Allegro on the road today

Driving somewhere on a country road in Wiltshire, it found me. At first I thought "Gee that front end looks familiar. It looks the dumber younger sibling of an old Rolls-Royce."The cream-colored blob hurtled toward me. It's an Allegro Vanden Plas.Oh. My. Goodness."I need to have one of those! Did you see that car that just drove past in the other direction? The cream-colored one?""Get your eyes back on the fucking road," my girlfriend yelled from the passenger seat.

Class - in beige as well. Especially rare to see one hurtling, I'd say :)

Did you get a hire car or did you buy some shite for your holiday?

Good Spot 8)

Are you on holiday then :?:

Yessir, till Monday. I'm in the parallel universe apparently called Oxford.

Hired a car. Dirt cheap and no risk. Focus 1.6. Has really exceeded expectations, although it is lacking in (1) velour and (2) old person smell.

______________

Bland shite spotting in this posh uni town, unless a showdown between the Audi A3 1.6 and BMW 118d really flicks your wick.

I'll post what I have seen, but it doesn't come close to the crusty Talbots and rotting Hillmans you boys spot.

Great Fiat Tempra wagon

Certainly this qualifies as future shite if it's not there yet--

I had never seen one of these Daewoo Nexias before, though we did get the Daewoo Lemans in the States for a few years badged as a Pontiac.

What does the Daewoo logo look like to you?

Corporate synergies on a waterfall wearing a thong. What the hell is it supposed to look like?

I don't know what its supposed to look like but a friend in Washington state believes that daewoos were never imported into the US because the logo looks like a jockstrap.

Ahh. Well I was just kidding around of course -- but we did get Daewoos in the States and sadly they did have the logo. We got the Daewoo Leganza and Nubria and Lanos. Naturally a bunch of our Chevys now are Daewoos, and some Daewoos were sold under the Subaru brand too.

Wasnt the Lemans a poorly disquised Mk2 Astra ?

If you want spot some cak look for Dismantlers in the area and go mooching .We went to Florida a few years ago and i visited all the yards i could find i had a good mooch i met some interesting but very dodgy people and seen some great motors (in bits ). The downside was my wife was in a horendous mood throughout the holiday as she had to go to the "dismal" parks on here own with the kids . there were varios arguments along the lines of " You have ruined the holiday " and " Why cant we ever do things as a family ? " I said they could have come with me  and the " This is the last Holiday we are ever going on "

I hope no-one from the Allegro Owners Club or similar sees this thread, they'd have a fit. "Rah rah, it's not an Allegro, it's a Vanden Plas 1500, they never had any Allegro badging on them anywhere, rah" etc.The above characterisation is not based on any personal experience with Allegro nutters, not at all.

To complete this particular circle, the Pontiac/Daewoo LeMans was the same car that we knew as the Nexia - which was indeed a gen2 Ashtray in a shiny frock.

That's made my day, an ex rental Sierra that I might have driven when it was new.

I saw a W plate beige Allegro this morning, moving in the opposite direction under its own power.

First time I ever saw a VDP 1500 was in a big student town, and I thought some wacky undergraduate had stuck an ironic Rolls-Royce style grille on his rotten old motor in a humorous jape - it was only when I saw another one some years later that I realised somebody thought it was a good idea to actually make them for real and sell them to the public.I still really want one.

Just grabbed 2 more today I thought y'all might get a kick out of. Sorry the quality is crap - they're both mobile phone grabs.

True. I think the OP was confused by the CD badge.Edit. And the camshaft rattle.

Used to see an Espero minicab around these parts. Absence of a diesel option would probably explain why I’ve not seen any others then. There’s similar era Leganza up for sale on a driveway just outside Tamworth. Apparently it benefits from an LPG conversion. £2,200. It’s been there a while

Misleading bastards! CDxi and not a drop of oil to be found. Well, except all the oil. Where would Daewoo get a 2-liter diesel anyway?
