Also cleaned and repaired the door cards, forgot to take a proper before on this one, so it’s a midway through pic and finished

I need some new speakers for it, the ones that are in are well used or more precisely they’re fucked! I’m going to have a dig around in the shed and see what I have in stock before I order anything new. I’d like Bluetooth etc in here anyway if I can.

Overall I think a couple of hours spent on the interior has cheered the car up no end, it’s a nicer place to be now, smells better too!

you will probably notice the completely worn out steering wheel. I’d like a series 1 wheel to replace it, but I believe they’re not transferable 😔. Has anyone got one for this lying around they’d swap for some beer tokens?

Looking much better! Just note that check strap on the driver side doesn’t look too clever and they do tend to snap with no warning, might be worth grabbing a replacement to save you having a dented door at a later date!

I had noticed that, I’m unsure if that’s surface rust or completely worn out! I’ll add it to the (growing) list

I’ve also got to do some work to improve the appearance outside, it’s definitely a 6 footer as it stands!

but it’s a better start point than the metro was, so hopefully it can be improved at home DIY or by a smart repairer rather than needing to visit a body shop.

It’s actually not bad for 28 years old.

I had a 93 ZX TD back in the day - Aura spec in a weird metallic forest green colour. (L955 XDF)

Was a fabulous car, quick, comfy, economical and fairly reliable - just a broken accelerator cable in the 5 years  and 75k ish miles I had it.

If I was in the market for a 90s cheap car I'd certainly put one of these on the list - preferably in Volcane spec though

The only problem with Volcane spec is that they are not cheap when they do come up for sale.

Haven't seen one for sale for years.

Yep - seen that!!!

Did have a quick look on eBay and found this one though:

Exactly the same spec, colour and age as my old one - did have to double check the original reg number!!

If I had space I would certainly be tempted............

I spoke too soon on the fleet being in good working order!

the camper van is suffering from a hot start issue. Starts and runs perfectly, but will not start if switched off when hot. I can make the thing start with a couple of squirts of easy start into the carbs, but that’s a pain when we’re loaded up with camping gear over the engine access hatch 😂

further investigation underneath the van shows the mechanical fuel pump is leaking when hot too, so its either got be changed or we need an electric fuel pump conversion. Add to this that Internet knowledge (which is almost never wrong*) suggests my hot start issue could be the fuel evaporating and the tired mechanical pump not being strong enough to suck more fuel through and I’m opting for the electric fuel pump and hoping that will fix the hot start issue too. All my research suggests that modern mechanical pumps for these are cheap chinesium rubbish, the life span of which can be measured in months rather than the decades of the original vw parts. Whether it fixes the hot start or not, a leaky fuel pump is bad news anyway 🔥

The Metro has also taken umbrage at having a new stable mate! Got in it today to move it around and get it clean and give it a once over before the MOT on Tuesday… no brake pedal, straight to the floor and brakes only just engaging right at the bottom of the pedal. No leaks anywhere so I’m thinking the master cylinder has gone bad (probably lack of use and recent heat). So the MOT is temporarily aborted!

I was thinking a large fleet would be a pain in the arse, but at least with four shitters hanging around I’ve got a couple that still work! 😂
