I do quite fancy an old Shogun, just a shame all of them seem to have HGF. Been looking at the later "GLS" uk models, super tool but just can't take the risk. Could have had a V6-24 off a mate last year, but guess what happened to that...

Mmmmm...nothing sweeter than being on first-name terms with the guys at the petrol station  Nice purchase, looks a good deal for 400 clams.

fortunately I get 46p a mile mileage - I will need it all for this - also as I am still suffering from PJV12RD (Post Jag V12 Running Disorder) anything that does more than 10 mpg is efficient in my warped mind!!!

Tough old things, them.Yeah abit thirsty but the diesels aren't very economical really and you'd struggle to get one of them for under a grand. You can buy alot of petrol for 600 quid....Is it manual or auto ? Doesn't say in the advert.Might just about get 20 to the gallon out of a manual. They do suffer with HGF and sometimes cracked blocks but a couple of bottles of K-seal or Cargo (blocking the heater matrix) and it will be fine, honest

I had a Sigma estate with the same engine a few years back, that had already suffered HGF and been repaired on the cheap (gasket goo everywhere in the engine bay). To be honest, I think the mechanics hadn't skimmed the head or changed the waterpump, so it was still losing water (steam used to pour out from under the bonnet via the overflow when stationary or just after switchoff), but managed to last me 2,000 hard-driven miles over the month I had it as an interim car. Did me proud for £199, and I sold it for £9 less than I paid.Pretty rapid and economical (high 20s with the slushbox) in that car, of course the extra weight and breezeblock aerodynamics of the Shogun will be worse, but as you seem to chop and change a fair bit I'm sure it will go the distance for you. I'd be more concerned about the cracked tyre sidewalls really.

Great off-road, bouncy on-road, but your LWB should be better. Easy high 20s MPG and run on veg oil ok. Look out for rotten chassis rails behind the rear suspension.
