From shite to alright - Xantia wheel trim refurbishment

Hi all, poking around eBay I found a ratty set of Barcelone wheel trims, a holy grail find indeed!

Condition upon arrival, scabs ahoy.

After a gentle rub down. Do not inhale 26 year old plastic dust.

Two coats of primer and it’s starting to look like I might be doing a good job.. unheard of!

I chose steel for the final colour with two coats of clear lacquer, not too Gucci but still looks OEM, unfortunately Halfords didn’t sell tartan.

And there she is, what a transformation, it’s all I could ever hope for and more. In all seriousness, this small job really has brightened what is quite a cosmetically challenged shiter. The question remains, will the jet wash ruin my hard work? Time will tell..

Cheers.

Looks excellent. A good pair of trims (or alloys because posh, like) can definitely make a car look a bit less scabby, IMO.

Are these rare then? Pretty sure I've got at least one set kicking about somewhere

I’m not sure if they’re rare, but I’d been looking for them for quite a while, £22 posted for the set.

When I brought the car it didn’t have a spoiler and the tailgate was 80% filler, luckily the one I got from the scrap yard came with a spoiler, bloody result.

ty for the paint comment 🙏

Get some clear cable ties on them, be a shame for one to come loose.  Lost one off my Audi 100 on the M62 somewhere, ballache to find a spare. Good job though, looking smart

I used black ones... don't do that!

Also as a tip, don't leave one sitting for ages. I had noticed this black thing sticking out of where the coil spring was about three weeks after my mechanic had the wheel off. Turns out there was a bit of cable tie left there and clung on for dear life. Think it's still in the back of the car. Lol.

I really should, but I’m worried it will spoil the look as they have quite thick “spokes” if you get me, would be a shame to loose one after I inhaled all that dust though..
