Tow coach

I think there is an age limit, busses over a certain age don't need a PSV, and you can only carry a maximum of 8 people or something like that. Which is probably 6 more friends than the average bus enthusiast has anyway....

Correct. The bus needs to be 30 years old and a max of 6 passengers. Seems a bit of a waste of a 58 seater coach! Or even the double decker I lust after (might change my dream bus to a Daimler Fleetline rather than a Metrobus though)

Great, internet goes down at home for a week (OH, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH VIRGIN SODDING MEDIA) and then you guys turn up this gem!Indeed it is a Plaxton Supreme bodied Leyland Leopard. Superb pieces of engineering they were too. They had a wonderful trick of being able to set off car alarms with their exhaust and were terribly overgeared for their power ('bout 200bhp on later ons like this). I've seen over 80 in one on my private test track. First sniff of an incline though and it's all over; down to 30 on some of the motorways finest hills...Although they had a horizontal mid engine with the engine not far in front of the rear axle, there was one enterprising operator, Independent coachways of Horsforth near Leeds that rebuilt at least one as a vertical rear engined coach. I believe one exists in Southern Ireland in the hands of a museum. Most were built as semi-automatics (The Wilson direct acting epicyclic gearbox-its inventor was an unbelievable genius but madder than a box of frogs) with no clutch pedal just a small pedestal mounted gear selector beside the driver. The selection of the gears was by air pressure and usually every gear change was accompanied by a loud whistle as air was released from the previous gear.As far as I know, the only way you are able to drive a bus carrying passengers, paying or not, is with a PCV license. The old 'Grandfather rights' that mechanics used to be able to get was withdrawn a number of years ago. Likewise the only way PCV drivers are now able to drive lorries is to get a LGV licence. They used to be able to drive rigid lorries on a PSV licence but that was withdrawn too. Such is progress.Preserved buses and coaches over 30 years old that are not used for hire and reward and carry up to 8 passengers can be still driven on a car license as can buses converted to exhibition vehicles or playbuses. Communal AS playbus anyone?

Play buses are MOT exempt too. I am aware they can put vehicles on the MID at any time within 14 days, but you try telling that to a copper who thinks the MID is the be all and end all of proof of insurance.

Well, I rang my insurance today who swore blind that my car is on the MID database, the girl I was speaking to on the phone assured me that she'd checked and confirmed it was on there 10 minutes before I called her.Guess what. It's still not showing up. Now, I've had the car more than a fortnight, and I've done everything I can to put this right, so what's the chances that I'll get a pull and Officer Dibble takes the car? Will the insurance pay for tow in charge and storage? Prace bets now.

They won't. And the rozzers aren't interested either. E-mail MID, copy yourself in and print it off.Not saying it'll work but probably worth a go.
