I'd only go for it if I knew I'd be keeping it for yeeaaaars.

At 150k, I'd avoid.

Audi 2.0 TDI with the CVT box, are these boxes a ticking timebomb or fairly safe anyone know?

You really have to ask??

What about a Tesla Model 3? you can get a post '21 LR for £12k if you look carefully.

I’m assuming that’s a yes? 😂 I don’t know anything about them. Seem common.

Nah budget is 5k and im going to stick to it, I did consider going up to 7 but I don’t need to.  Plenty of cars within budget 👍

Did some work on a 2010 so assume it was the previous model? It had the 2.0tdi and the CVT and I was actually very impressed at how it drove. Had heard they were a bit troublesome but no idea if it’s truth or one of them old wives tales based on some that were genuinely shit yonks ago?

Didn't buy the Q5 @ Anglia Car Auctions tonight then? 🤷‍♀️
Didn't sell at £3,250 or somewhere around that price .............

I emailed to ask whether it was a private entry or a dealer part ex (private entry would put me off more tbh) but they didn’t reply and I forgot!

I’ve got the frighteners about CVT boxes now.

I might just wait it out for another F11, at least I know what I’m dealing with there.

I was lurking online - no real money for anything older than 2015 other than a couple of BMW things. AS type stuff was proving hard to shift - the auctioneers were working hard for their pay tbh.

7k would get you a Kiltox special EV like a Leaf or a Zoe, plus enough left over for a scabby old Volvo estate or something.

I’ve left a deposit, got £5280 in cash in an envelope, and a train booked for 17:10 today.

I wonder what it is, let’s just say I’ve stuck to what I know.

So some of you will have seen the collection thread but I thought I’d try something different and buy a diesel BMW for a change

2011 F11 520 D M sport touring

140k on the clock

April 2024 it had timing chain, egr delete, swirl flap delete, gearbox service and a remap by the same place I had the chain done on my 3 series and previous 5 series. Witter detachable tow bar, front and rear dash cam, wireless apple CarPlay / Android auto, pilot sport 5’s all round.

Such a difference in quality from the F31 to F11, the 5 series feels so much better built, seats like armchairs.

Happy for another couple of months at least…

FTFY ;-)

Be interested how you find it compared to the stepped on Range Rover? The BMW certainly appeals to my eye more than the RR.

Chalk and cheese

I was a big fan of the RR and now I’ve owned one I’ll defend them all day long as a lovely car but if you’ve owned/driven BMW’s they just drive so good. I can’t really explain it. The F11 feels like it’s got feeling in the steering, even though it’s a big car with a slightly underpowered engine you can still actually drive them. The steering is that bit heavier with more feel, you’re sat more ‘in’ the car than on it.

Im an estate lover, the RR boot was way smaller than I imagined it would be, not a very big car at all.

I fucking deal

When I accelerate under load, say from a 30 to a NSL, fairly hard, it pings the drivetrain warning then after a few seconds clears itself.

These 3 codes stored

Weird as it looks like one is the turbo actuator, one is DPF related and one is boost pressure.

No idea what it could be, can’t really be arsed to start chasing!

This has been blanked and mapped out!

I didn't think you could do that on a car with a dpf?

God knows, I have the invoice for it so I hope so 😂

Unless the dpf has been gutted?

Doesn’t look like it, it’s a mystery!

The joys of changing cars, sometimes it’s best to stick with what you have, that would royally piss me off if I’d just sold a reliable ‘daily’ to buy it.

You win some you lose some, I’ll sort it, I’ve had a good run so far!

The guy I bought it from is mortified and has said he’ll pay to get it sorted. I’m going to book it in with BMW Mini Tech in Colchester who did the chain and map as I know them and they know the car

I hope it gets sorted.

I don't think the quality is as good as the e60. I have had to replace the rear console vents on mine as they were broken - the main ones in the dash also need replacing- they are very flimsy.
