Another collection thread is 5 cars going a bit far and car tax troubles.

My Mrs has a lovely black beetle cabriolet which she bought about 10 months back with a full ticket for £500 and being that she keeps beating me in buying bargain cars I thought I would see what I could find.

I hadn’t really been looking that hard  as I already have an immaculate Z3 and an E36 I barely use and I was given a V5 golf back in March and I have  my old R50 Mini as my station car but then this popped up on Market place.

I wasn’t expecting much as it had been up for sale awhile but at £400 for a low mileage Mk three and a half cabriolet I thought it might be worth a punt.

So yesterday I went over to see the motor and apart from needing a clean and an inch of stitching which needs redoing in the roof it’s nigh immaculate but I couldn’t hear it start up as the battery was flat so I had a spare so put it on today and it fired up first turn of the key and drives fantastic and the old 2 litre is very quite.

Apparently the seller said it it can cut out sometimes on a hot day  and if you turn the key a minute later it will drive as if nothing has happened.

The added bonus he said if you can take it away today it’s yours for £250 but I’m having trouble trying to sort out the logbook as the seller wanted to leave it too me to sort out and has it on disabled tax and I don’t know how to get it back to PLG tax as it wouldn’t let me tax it online so at the moment I can’t drive it.

@Vince70 just take the V5c in your name (going by how he left you the V5c I assume you did a keeper change online with the 11 digit number etc)

to a post office that deals with vehicle tax and ask them to tax it into the PLG taxation class and they will do so :) they will take the V5c stamp it send it off to the DVLA and issue you a receipt showing the tax you paid for etc (keep this on hand to show to any police that may question why the vehicle is showing untaxed etc!)

and then in a week or so another V5c in the corrected taxation class should come back :)

its exactly the same process for when you stick a vehicle into the historic vehicle taxation class for example

if you cant make it to a post office then you should be able to change it with a V10 form still instead

Thanks for the advice as It just wouldn’t let me tax it online using the new keeper supplement.

I have now managed to get the logbook into my name online and managed to sorn the car  so I’ve now disconnected the battery and put a cover over it and will start getting my new car ready in the new year and I’m really chuffed with it.

So I’ve now had the MK1 GTi cabriolet and also the MK3 cabriolet  previously and this £250 MK3.5 Advantage looks the best of the bunch if I’m honest.
