FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 This week end I are mostly be tarting up Bertha, so she looks a fraction of her age. The bull bar is already off.
Captain Mainwaring Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Love that! Looks like the front end has been welded on to the body as an afterthought!
lovejoy Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 WOW ! that must have the aerodynamics of a breezeblock !
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 it's built on a chassis cowl, the cab and floor come from Ford, the rest is built on. It's only a small part and the van is just erm delivering surprisingly.....
whitevanman Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 paint it beige and have red and orange stripes with APS on it
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Nice idea but they have seen it in green now....
pogweasel Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 paint it beige and have red and orange stripes with APS on it Haha! I like the idea of Autoshite Parcel Service. I was going to suggest that all items sent by APS should arrive at least 2 days later than they should, with substantial damage, brought to your house by a scruffy man with an air of resigned nonchelance and a roll up on the go. But then I realised that was already Parcelforce's business model...
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 I though I was ASDS, done me first job already...... http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ht=#143515
chaseracer Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 The special school I taught at, long ago in a previous life, had one of these "converted" into a minibus. It was feckin horrible! I drove it once, then refused ever to do so again, in the interest of the kids' safety. YYO262T, I hope you are long gone. The subsequent conversation with the head teacher was brief, pointed, quite loud, and led to the purchase of an ex-Plod LDV 400 personnel carrier. You know the one: looks like a wide Sherpa, basically an MGB van with windows... Not often a Sherpa is preferable to something it replaces
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 They did come in Dormobile bus conversion flavour too, I have one of those but it's up North, and is painted hippy stylee with trees and hand prints..... Did the LDV have a V8 by any chance? It was a plod option only.

Albert Ross Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I once had the pleasure of rebuilding a 2.0 V4 in a V plated one of these, was an ex -Sketchleys van IIRC, and was subsequently used for "trips" to Amsterdam............. I ended up fitting 1.5mm oversize pistons in it, as all the bores had worn barrel shaped, and cracked all compression rings... We found a hi-lift cam, dunno where from, we believe ex-Corsair plod-mobile, and fitted a twin choke Weber on a bespoke manifold. It fair fucking flew! Good for approx 27mpg on a run, and could hit 75ish on a hill, 0-60 times were early teens too! Looked bloody awful, but never got nicked, trashed, or stopped at customs either! Seem to remember it being beige.............

Justin Case Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 yeah sorry to get to Walsall in the first place would cost yer,If it is of any help, I can translate the local dialect into English at a fraction of the normal rate to any autoshiter who asks nicely http://cybermetrics.wlv.ac.uk/blackcoun ... lation.php
Vin Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I've always liked the 'gawkiness' of these Transit Parcel/Laundry vans. You don't seem to get them very often now. Last lot I really noted was the 'Initial' (Industrial laundry company) fleet of LDV Convoys that used to visit our sites, but they've been replaced with similar styled Iveco Dailys. Also as regards a shit parcel company. DHL are pretty good. My phonecall to an automated system to rearrange delivery of some Fiat 126 bits from Germany, to a time when I'd be home, was taken as confirmation that they had to be returned to sender.......On venting my spleen at the Goole depot the explanation was "Unfortunately we are not very good at the delivery part".......OK
FredTransit Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 I don't remember them putting that in their ads....
