whitevanman Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 'Tis what happens when a forum becomes very popular and expands and expands
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Sorry I thought it was funny, if not faintly disturbing. I appear to have wandered on to Retro Rides. Where's the whinge bin?
rocco1504 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 We're all quick to grumble about William G Stewart filling up the forum with inane guff, but 4 pages of this drivel about a secondhand conversation one of freds colleagues had in a pub, would defeat him hands down in any spam-off.its boring as hell I could get as much interesting motoring related comment and opinion (i.e. what I used to get off AS) by sitting on bloody facebook all day. STOP RUINING THE FORUM FFS I know I havn't been here long, so please don't jump on me if this is the wrong suggestion, as it is only a suggestion, but Perhaps it's time for another section to be added to the index page for "Inane Guff" / Non car related posts ?.
pogweasel Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 No. Inane guff is for faecebook, twatter, whatever.
Milford Cubicle Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Unfortunately this is how most forums become, irrelevant threads get hundreds of replies but many threads relevant to the forum get bugger all replies.
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 OK I am being serious now. This is the beef I had with RR (no I am not offended BTW) and it's exactly why I am on here and not there, and other forums. Correct me if I am wrong, but is this not a community? It's not normal for any community, however like minded, to only ever talk about one thing. Most forums have off topic section, for this very reason. Isn't it better to have some lively discussion, by regulars (ie community members) than just to have people come on for one thread or two asking about what wheels will fit or what a particular car is, then bugger off never to be seen again?
Gompo Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 No. Inane guff is for faecebook, twatter, whatever.Exactly. Autoshite - Your motoring is our concern As others have said too, it usually happens when a forum gets bigger and outsiders arrive not really knowing what's what. Like Saabhappy getting all uppity about the Sherpa Coupe. The MGB has been known as that here for ages - we're not going to drop it just because you dont like it.
binhoker668 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Calm down guys - Fred's post is a fair one - and has spawned much hilarity. Enough of the forum police - it's clear to me that Fred's motoring is *someone else's* concern - so she just mentioned it. No biggie. Right?
Mr Lobster Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Theres nothing wrong with a certain amount of off topic threads. But there has been a fair amount of nonsence posted of late mainly I would have to say by newer members. Gompos comment above about the Sherpa coupes is spot on. Thats how it is, you presumably like what you see thats why you joined so don't then take offence to it.Thats not to have a pop at newer members or anyone specific, this is a very broad church and anyone is welcome - it's nice that we have such a broad range of automotive interest. But there have really been a few fairly poor threads of late. Lets get back to some good stuff please!!
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 The "Grumpy Old Man/Pedant" Post feel free to add!The biggest thread on here ................
whitevanman Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Sorry I thought it was funny, if not faintly disturbing. I appear to have wandered on to Retro Rides. Where's the whinge bin?personally I find this thread hilarious.....but deeply disturbing not slightly
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 OK I am off to post some shite related stuff, to make up for it. Ta WVM, it does seem that generally the posters on here got a laugh out of it....
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 If everyone got a laugh out of it, then great!I find 'Vic Reeves' Big Night Out' very funny, how about i start a thread about it with loads of youtube clips and so on. We can all post up 'you wouldnt let it lie' to each other over and over again.
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Well I can't stand Vic Reeves, but if you put up a post about him, I would go on it and post 'this isn't about shite'. I just wouldn't go on it. It's not the end of the world is it? That's what I like about this forum, it's more easy going.
Cavcraft Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Could this thread be tagged on the 'grumpy' one?
Cavcraft Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I know naff all about internetty things sorry but just wondered if this thread could be sort of tagged on to the grumpy one?
chaseracer Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I know naff all about internetty things sorry but just wondered if this thread could be sort of tagged on to the grumpy one?Only from the lower end of page 4 onward...
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 You mean split and merged. I can't do it (even as the thread starter), it would have to be admin that does it.
Rusty Pelican Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 . But there has been a fair amount of nonsence posted of late mainly I would have to say by newer members. That be me then ( see , more noncence )
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Was this you i saw on the news Fred? This guy really is a master of disguise. It may well have been him in the pub.I never thought to ask if he was black, that would have been the icing on the cake.....
HillmanImp Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Do you remember this guy? He was the one that was on BBC news? He was a taxi driver waiting in reception for a job interview and accidentally got asked to be on TV as they thought he was some sort of industry expert. Genuis. He did as well as expected.
FredTransit Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Yeah I remember him, it was priceless. Poor sod.
