MOT Question - Clio II (2000)

Hello allA mate has a Clio II, yr 2000. Various stuff wrong with it. I replaced the busted drivers mirror with an NOS item. My question is as followsThe rear wiper doesn't workThe driver's window (electric) wont go down (stuck closed)Those 2 wouldn't fail the MOT, would they?Thanks in advance all!

rear wiper is definately not an MOT item and I am not 100% sure but I don't think side windows are either.There are plenty of kitcars out there without wind down windows just side screens.SirTainlyBarkin's Bond Bug has only got side screens and that was a production car.However you might come across the "if it's fitted it needs to be working" reply from the tester.Deloreans and Subaru SVX's only have tiny openings in the windows so you might just get an advisory for it.

I thought the rear wiper had to work (and be in good order) if it was fitted?If that is the case (and I stand to be corrected) then if you remove the whole arm they cannnot fail it.

I agree with Cavette, if it don't work, take it off. As for the window, I have never ever seen any tester touch the windows in many tests (class4 and class7). Only the door catches, as the door has to open from the inside.

Never had a rear wiper checked for MOT but like I said you might get "if it's fitted....." so as above just remove the wiper arm.

Thanks everyone. I'm just going to remove the wiper arm, to be on the safe side. The sodding motor works, but, as it's a Renault, there's a plastic ring missing off the shaft, and teh bay of da e has none.Once again, thanks all.

Rear wash/wipe is not part of the MOT and should not be checked, there'd be no category to fail it under on the system.Same for side windows.

While we're here, hypothetical situation - if the engine number doesn't match the one on the V5, is that a fail? There's no engine no. box on the certificate and I don't see any mention of it on the mot manual site.

A non-functioning side window would fail a taxi MOT but not a private car one.

UPDATE:I finally got through to the MOT centre (it's run by the Gestapo, er, I mean the Government here in NI)And, rear wiper does not need to work, nor do the side windows.So, fellow shiters, you were correct!CheersAutoshite FTMFW
