danthecapriman Posted Friday at 08:51 Posted Friday at 08:51 Ah, school proms… I remember it well… I didn’t go!😆 Shouldn’t be too big a problem sorting those issues? Even ignoring the speedo not working if you can’t fix it, just match traffic speed. It’ll be a seriously cool car to arrive at the prom in though👍 mk2_craig and Wibble 1 1

Fingers crossed it all goes without problems. Work colleague just finished his sons 1970 MkI Escort 2 door and took his daughter to Prom in it. Pleased to say l had a wee hand in sorting out the gearbox mount. Proud Father, in years to come brother and sister will be proud of their Father for his efforts. Took my stepson to prom in a Jensen Interceptor, that broke down so l picked him up in a Jensen CV8. Took God daughter to prom in the Jensen Interceptor, didn't break down that time! Did one in a Bentley, took a photo that ended up on the Bentley Drivers Club front page! Drove around the West End of London in the seedy hours in it too, that was cool. I'm a bit stuffed at the moment to help out at short notice, not insured on anything decent sadly. Cortina should be the winner, just take him there fella and sod the consequences.

Wibble Posted Sunday at 15:32 Author Posted Sunday at 15:32 Freddy and I have been having fun* prepping the Cortina for tomorrow night. It’s parked in the garage, with passenger side right against the wall, so all bar that side is now clean and shiny and glass cleaned inside and out. However, we still have no indicators but do have hazards. I’m sure it’s the switch and I have a new one which I’ll swap over this evening. Staying with lights, we have dipped and main beam but no side or tail lights. We do have brake lights though and as it will be daylight, as long as we can get indicators working, I’m happy to go anyway. Freddy has also been round it with a fine brush and some paint, touching in little bits that will need doing properly at some point. Might have to give it a blast of ozone to tonight too, smells a bit musty. I’ll report back later on results of indicator stalk swap. Popsicle, Dyslexic Viking, Shite Ron and 7 others 10

Nope, it all worked fine last year, left , right, flash, main beam and horn. There are two badly soldered wires on the new one too, as in the photo, which the original doesn’t have. The wiring plug connected easily too, so no idea but it all works so I won’t dwell on it, just a bit of a mystery. High Jetter 1
Wibble Posted Sunday at 20:06 Author Posted Sunday at 20:06 Also noticed that the exhaust on the Senator had dropped down. The rear rubber hanger has perished and broken (modern rubber is shit), so cable tied it back up. Then found a new rubber hanger in the boot of the Cortina🤦♂️ That can wait.
Wibble Posted yesterday at 19:23 Author Posted yesterday at 19:23 The cleaning and polishing gave us this: Looks ok and then I remembered I had this to freshen up the inside: Once the cleaning was done, we headed out to get £20 of E5 to freshen up what was already in it. On leaving the petrol station, the car was violently pulling to the right and I had to fight to keep it straight. Drove home slowly to find a very hot offside front wheel. It was only a couple of miles but the clearly seized calliper produced clouds of steam for ver five minutes when shown the hosepipe. It was now after 4pm and I was running out of time, so had to go to plan b and wash the Skoda in the hour I had left. We were both gutted but my lad did say he should have asked me earlier to have given me more time to sort things. At least the Skoda is clean for the first time in months: A very disappointing day there were plenty of others being dropped off in parents daily drives. We ignored the flash stuff. I’m very sore and bloody knackered but he’s here and I hope he’s enjoying himself. mk2_craig, Popsicle, RayMK and 6 others 9
danthecapriman Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago You gave it your best shot. Nothing you can really do in short time with a problem like that. On the bright side though your lad got to the prom and wasn’t upset and both your cars got cleaned up and looking lovely. A tiny bit more work on Cortina and it’ll be sorted👍 Peter C, Wibble, Shite Ron and 1 other 1 1 2
