keef Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I sort of see *some* point in Facebook but what about Twitter? I'm blowed if I can see anything at all. At least in FB there are a few groups and a chat facility.
dollywobbler Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I don't twitter. Like you say, can't see the point. FB's great for keeping in touch with friends and family though.
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I gave Twitter a go a year or so ago. I just 'followed' mainly news and sports sites to get updates, but grew very tired of it very quickly. Its gay.
Richard Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Like all social networking applications it's a data harvesting tool.
Station Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 It's only really used by gays and people who follow trends and fashions and celebrities. I can't see any use other than that. It truly is the arsehole of the internet.
Justin Case Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 It truly is the arsehole of the internet.Stephen Fry is apparently one of the main users of Twitter+1
keef Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 It truly is the arsehole of the internet.Stephen Fry is apparently one of the main users of Twitter+1**** that!
254575 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 sorry guys but I disagree. twitter can be a very useful tool. following individuals is a bit pointless, but using an application like tweetdeck and following search terms and hash tags can give you a lot of useful info.for example, if you follow @stephenfry you will learn about what stephen fry had for breakfast.... however, following a search for my local town for instance gives me as lot of interesting and local news and the location of a swingers club 5 minutes from my house that I didn't even know about!. also, by following a search for shite related subjects such as ' austin maestro' does from time to time bring up people scrapping for parts etc....
trigger Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm not a great fan of twatter, I don't understand how it work and how you tweet people, I'll stick to facebook.
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I did at one point consider creating an Autoshite Twitter account, but then upon thinking about it a bit more seriously, I didnt really know what updates I would send.'Hirst replaced spark plugs on Charmant - all went well apparently''E Leyland spotted yet another Tagora in stevenage - more to follow''Snow Chaos not acceptable - says Autoshite'etc etc
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 It has its uses. http://twitter.com/big_ben_clock
Guest Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Ha ha ha - that's where you're wrong Mr Sceptre, I replaced the plugs with ridiculous Iridium ones so they don't need doing for a few years yet. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
keef Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 It has its uses.http://twitter.com/big_ben_clock 38,491 Followers - WTF?
UglyAmerican Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 As I see it, Twitter has 2 real uses:1. Organizing riots2. As a system for notifying people about new content on a website. For my current car website, which is a parody of mainstream car blogs, I use twitter to say when new articles are posted. Believe it or not it accounts for some 50-100 page hits per week. Incidentally, the Beeb reported that some huge percentage (like 75%) of Twitter accounts are dormant two weeks after being created.
Pillock Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I use it as an alternative to news feeds.... I just follow gadget blogs and news sites really, then when I'm on the loo at work i can just browse through the tweets.Bizarrely, I've got 5 followers even though I've never tweeted anything. One of whom appears to be a porn star.
mk2_craig Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Incidentally, the Beeb reported that some huge percentage (like 75%) of Twitter accounts are dormant two weeks after being created.I got myself a Shitter a/c last summer when it seemed to be going exponential, though what for I'm not quite sure. However I do see it being of use for certain things like bus companies doing short-notice updates for service diversions during adverse weather etc... saying that there's no doubt better ways of doing it!
rocco1504 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Like all social networking applications it's a data harvesting tool. That, and for Narcissistic Tools to broadcast to anyone who will listen, how Wonderful/ Awful their lives are, and for **Adult Dating sites trying to lure people in with promises of Roman Orgy Scale sex parties for only $35.00 a month, when in reality, IF you do meet someone, you'd probably end up with something you'd have for the rest of your life, how ever long that might be after said Liaison. **Just checked my account for only the first time since I joined, and every one of my followers, URL's lead to some Dating site that costs $$$ to join, I think i'll close my account now.
