failing the MOT for the first time

The passes would be the indicator of the number on the road as some of the failures would have been scrapped, the other failures retested to gain a pass and a small proportion of the failures failing the retest and eventually passing.

Disappointed not to find McLaren on there, but a great find nonetheless!TVR seemed to do reasonbaly well, averaged around 22-25% pass rate.Good to see FSO on there:125p = 62.5% FailureCaro = 45.5% FailurePolonez = 42.9% Failure

While I doubt these figures help you draw any meaningful conclusions about how good something is, it is interesting to see what shite is being presented at the test station. I've submitted a FOI request for the corresponding figures for two-wheelers, presumably now a precedent has been set it shouldn't be a problem.

Transit can be blamed for amount of miles and general neglect these vehicles get?

True, but as with all of the failure listed, it could be something small like a broken mirror or bald tyre.

Another thing I noticed, it mentions 700 odd Belmonts, but I recall a certain survey published in 2004 said around 20,000 were around in 2003. Could they really have been scrapped at such a rate?

Nah, I'd say it was entirely possible that 19300 Belmonts had been twocked and burnt out by scrotes over the last seven years. That equates to 2814 Belmonts per year, 54 a week or 7 and three quarters of a Belmont per day. Yeah, seems feasible!

There are a good number of vehicles missing from the list for some reason. For example there were no Renault 14s recorded.Where are all the Austin Cambridges, Morris Minors BMW 2002, 1602 etc etc etc :?:? Also as someone has pointed out already the first used dates can leave a lot to be desired. I think there was one Pug 205 showing as 1900 registered date  This is because testers can put in their own details if they cannot find a "match" on the system, leading to some strange inputs. :?:?

The computerised system was (and possibly still is) full of faults. My old 2 owner Mk2 Escort, with no reg plate transfers or anything (YET573T) but with a Pinto instead of 1.3 X-flow came up on the MOT computer as an Escort Cosworth.
