Need Car / Long Time Hello

As I found out when I was 18, those "insurance for younger drivers" companies are bollocks. I guess they snare a few people who don't shop around though, because they think it's aimed at them and they're not going to get a quote cheaper elsewhere.

When I was 18 I was working in a licensed restaurant. For some reason working on licensed premises seemed to increase my premium quite a lot- mostly because it reduced the number of companies that would cover me. I don't know if that's still the case but it's something to bear in mind when you're looking for a part time job.

It's because they assume people will drink then drive home. My missus worked at a hotel and was tee-total but insurance quotes were astronomical.

I passed my test in 1988, first car an Escort 1300E cost £1100 to insure third party only. Second car an Escort estate MK2 £1000 Then I had a MK1 Fiesta at £900....after that I bought a MK2 Cav...suddenly the cost went down to £500 in the space of three years. Insurance is wank I feel sorry for young lads trying to get covered it must be a right pain in the arse.

another good reason to not to be too honest when it comes to occupations. I stopped mentioning the film business a year ago, as any vehicle we have is insured by the production company when actually on set, so our insurance is only relevant going to and from. One company tried to justify it by saying I could mow somebody famous like Madonna down on set. Didn't happen the last two times (I know, tempting) so not likely to ever happen! I have a mate who is a mechanic, but also of an evening an equity card carrying Drag Queen, he learnt quite early on not to mention the Equity card......

http://liverpool.gumtree.com/liverpool/43/51831043.htmlIf you can fix a clutch cable this looks ok.

Cluctch cable is piece of P*ssbut guess what ... its a 1.4 so insurance may be high Gonna spend the next hour doing insurance quotes and come back with the most expensive and the cheapest Then is all goes well email / ring the seller and go from there Thanks(sure it was posted by someone else earlier, thanks to them too)

Given that most celebrities are worth more dead than alive, would there actually be a financial cost attached to running Madonna over?

What is a safe/low-risk, part-time or full-time occupation then?Possibly claiming to be a part-time Vicar might help. I know this is of no help whatsoever, but, if the insurance is that crippling, now might not be the time to buy a car. The costs don't stop with insurance you will need money for repairs/consumables/fuel/road-tax etc. so if you are struggling to find the insurance payments you won't have any money left to enjoy driving it. There aren't many cars in group 1 but you might have to start there even if it costs a bit more to buy (but you'll always be able sell it again to someone like you a year down the line if it's still in one piece)Sadly the insurance companies won't care if your car is only worth 2p, they look at the likely consequences if you have a bump which in these days of the "Have you been in an accident and suffered whiplash?" could cost them a bomb, even if you have been daft enough to be lumbered with a huge excess (which might look like the only way of getting insurance, but, only do it if you have got access to the money if you need it)I'm afraid these days that's what your up against. If you can get at least a years claim free experience on someone else's policy that will be a great help when you come to set up your own.My first years insurance in my own name cost me £300, but that was 30 years ago when £300 was about 2 months take home pay.

Cost for repairs should be cheap as i will repair the car myselfIts just the cost of buying the parts ... which luckily i can get at a little reduction with the help of a nice local guy who owns Motivation in New Ferry (lloyd) - He once lent me the tool to remove rear brake calipers from an Astra and said "give me it back when you have done with it"went back the next day and he said "Ooh keep it":)As for petrol, tyres and alike i can be real cheeky and ask daddy dearest if he could lend me a pennie or two.I have owned in total 3 cars now, so understand the costsI have just never insured them (as they have been in my drive SORNED)Thanks for the reply tho !

Yay found a car i like and within budget !!only problem is its 170 miles away :)Its a VW Polo (breadvan shape)Which i believe are not too bad with reliability, but as its 170 miles away i need advice on breakdown cover. My dad has HSBC breakdown cover which i believe is taken home or garage (what ever is nearest)but if we do breakdown and we are MILES away, we need to be taken straight home an not to some garage that will charge us money we dont have.So i ask you - The Autoshite CommunityDo you know of any Breakdown cover that does this ?(I have looked for 2 days, and they all say Home or garage / what ever is nearest)

Actually picking the car up on a sunday sounds like a great idea,Because just guessing buy they have to take you to a garage that is open ?As for the AS card - Nope dont have one, but i really do need one
