1987 Peugeot 205 1.4 GR - smells of oil and petrol

Had three bought new back in the 80's, early 90's. E reg Junior, G reg XS and a J reg GTi. Still remember the first two with fondness, the 1.6 GTi was a massive disappointment after the XS, even after a couple of track days at Silverstone with it.

Was the 1.6 GTi not just the step up from the XS that you'd hoped for?

TBH, the GTi was probably worse than the XS. Didn't seem any quicker, didn't handle any better and used more fuel. Cost £10.5k back in 1991 (I couldn't afford the 1.9), it spent a fair time at the dealers and they basically said there are good ones and crap ones, you're unlucky sunbeam.

When it ended up on a recovery wagon when it decided to FTP for no reason that even the dealer could explain, then decided to work again for no reason I traded it in for a diesel ZX.

Yep, this is the oil filler.

It just pulls off...but they can be an absolute pig to get off sometimes so be prepared for a fight.  It's just a push fit.

i saved a giffer spec 205 gl 3 dr from the scrappy once, pale blue and 33k. paid 35 quid for it. was odd, as it was phase1 dash on an e plate but had a tu engine... sold it to a mates mum for $350. lovely little thing
