Series 1 XJ6 - WANT

One of my parent's neighbours is into old motors and he bought a 1970 Series 1 XJ6 a few months ago for not a lot of money. Got it running nice and put it through an MoT and now it's on the road.He took me out for a spin in it today and I really want one now! This one is a 4.2 auto and it looks a bit of a shitter at the moment but he's going to run it as is through winter then get the body sorted and paint it. It pulls really well and the gearbox is very smooth. What a lovely machine. I hadn't realised what a nice car these were and it's really odd getting into a car of this age that has no rattles, you can't hear the engine, rides beautifully and has such an air of quality. If this is what a slightly ropey one is like, a good example must be awesome. One day maybe....

couldn't agree more, my favourite Jag EVAH, the epitome of understated quality. Now's the time to buy one though, give it five years and they'll be making close to Mark2 money i reckon....

Definately the nicet (and purest) of the XJ range.2.8 is the one to avoid I'm told.

2.8's are to avoided [underpowered, and have a nasty tendancy to incinerate pistons. 4.2's are the most common, biggest pain are the AED's, which was Jaguars idea of an auto choke and is possibly the biggest pile of crap since Triumph's attempt at fuel injection.........

XJ6s are lush!! It's not for nothing that CAR praised them so highly for so many yrs.

Yup, they are seriously nice. Power steering is horribly light though, so not quite perfect. Refinement is something else though. Mind you, I wouldn't want one that was full of knackered bushes, or which had a rear brake issue...
