Can someone please enlighten me on service history? Looking at a 2000 reg'd car (Vauxhall of course!) which has no history but was told you can obtain copies of it from main dealers.Anyone know if this is true and what I'd need to take to the dealer to get it such as V5 or something and do they charge for the privelidge?Cheers in advance.

Depends on the dealer, and if it's been main agent serviced....If you have to pay, it's normally less than a tenner.

Nice one, cheers. Will give my local dealer a call if I buy it.

I have asked the dealer who sold my Clio new about the service history they have on file. They are in London and have said that if I go to my local dealer with the v5 and 1 other proof of id they will forward it on.

why not call them before you buy it?and remember it will only work if serviced with the same garage/group.

Some dealers are more than happy to, depends if they have a national database, Volvo do, as they kindly gave me a list of each time mine was serviced/worked on by a main agent.IIRC Honda is the same.I rang round loads when Monkeyboy from here was looking for a new motor, most are happy to help, and if they do want cash for it, and there is a national database, ring a different dealer.Ford is Dealer specific, so you need to approach the actual dealer who serviced it.

Thanks once again. I knew I'd only get 'official' dealer history (if there is any) and will try at the weekend if not before.
