pompei Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Just been reading about Pat "Bomber" Roach. of Saturday afternoon wrestling and Auf Weidersehen Pet fame During most of the 90s Pat Roach had a scrapyard on Arden Road, Saltley, Birmingham.Anyone know any more about this?
Station Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 He was also a stuntman as well! Seems likely he did have a scrapyard.
AXrescuer Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I saw that quote about the scrap yard on Wikipedia. I don't believe that all that is written on there is completely kosher!
warren t claim Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I heard of the former Mrs Claim's mother that he owned a caravan site and was a bit of a tightwad.
Justin Case Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I think that at one time (after he came to fame) he had a car sales site on the Stratford Road in Birmingham (Pat Roach Motors ?) which might have been the one that sold FSOs or Yugos. Does anyone else remember it?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I think the scrapyard bit is true, as I remembe rmy brummie mate going on about it years ago.
shite_meister Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Wasn't he originally from Cornwall?Nope Birmingham, his character Bomber in Auf Wiedersehen Pet was from Bristol, not that I am an anal retard about the series or anything... Pat Roach also played a bad dude in Sean Connery's 80's bond return Never Say Never Again, he threw Sean about the place and generally slapped him about.
Station Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Some brief research:There's one in Birmingham at the back of Winson Green Prison, that specialises in Japanese cars. Not sure of the name now, used to belong to Pat Roach, the wrestlerAnd how blatant is this?http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/salvage-yards/ ... -roach.htmHis yard also appear in:Car Is Born 1, A Episode 3Volunteers from the local college help Mark strip, clean and catalogue his second-hand car. Plus he heads down to Pat Roach's scrapyard for a crash course in spare part surgery.
shite_meister Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Fuck I forgot that he was also on the receiving end of Harrison Ford's girlie-like fist (in comparison) in Indiana Jones:
Lankytim Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 He did indeed have a scrapyard near Winson Green prison, he also lived near me in Sparkhill (or his mum did). He used to park his brown Rolls Royce outside the terrace house in Foremans road (I think) and me and my mates would go round and dare each other to snap the lady off the grille.
