And the SVX has to be top shite, Ive only ever seen one of them.

Would quite like to own one, but i guess they are worth a tidy sum?

SVX's are ok. There's one outside the garage my Escort is at.

Is a LHD SVX more shite?

My nomination for Autoshite Gold would probably be a Peugeot 505 GLD Familiale in beige. Like this;

I do like Pug 505s.

Well 25,000 SVXs were made, 7000 rhd.

So a LHD model is shite, but RHD is more so :)

Plus one for the 505 though, and howabout the 504 pickup?

Posted

does that mean the 504 is now prestige

For the proces they are going for these days i reckon they've gone beyond shite status now.....which is a shame as i've always liked them. esecially an early one in black mmmm...

For many more sporting Subaru shite points, you need to look at the XT.

I'd love a SVX, Always fancied one after buying a autocar magzine with the road test of it back in 1992, I saw one last year in a car park but by the time i got parked and went to go over to it the owner drove off. Had a cool number plate like J1 SVX as well.

The all have **SVX plates. A friend of mine bought one. Then put an SVX plate on it and I've seen several others too. I guess there aren't many people with the initials S.V.X so the DVLA flog them off cheap. Handy if your name is Stephen Victor Xbollox though.

I know the Talbot Tagora gets a lot of attention on this board, but it really deserves its rightful number 1 slot.Other cars that make the grade:-- Sierra 2.3d as someone else mentioned.- Mk 3 escort 1.6D.- CX25 estate D.- Astra mk 2 estate (3 door only!!)- Fiat Strada. Does anyone here have one of these?- FSO Polonez- late 70s Granada D.- Golf Mk 2 'country'Runners up- Seat Ibiza circa 1985- Renault 5 'campus'

Perhaps a very good indicator of Shite-status would be those cars that were tested from the 1970's to the 1990's by car magazines that scored only 1 blob in the verdict score. Also, those featured in WhatCar in the 70's and 80's when they had the diagrams of the dash with labels pointing to switches explaining their function, and had less that 10 labels.Hey to all those with collections of such publications: Are there road tests of the following present, and if so can we see scans?Talbot TagoraLonsdale Yugo SanaHonda Quintet (although I suspect this scored well)Daihatsu CharmantDaihatsu ApplauseMitsubishi TrediaLancia TreviVW K70Alfa Arna or Cherry EuropeChrysler 180FSO CaroDacia DenemFiat ArgentaFiat CromaI am sure the majority of these (bar the Quintet and K70) would have come last in a group test; ended up with one or two blobs as a verdict.

That's a serious list of crud, almost enough to get me looking for a Fiat Croma V6.

I suspect you may have to make do with a 5 pot 2.4 from the last generation - surely no V6's left on the roads now are there? I did see one in Harbin (north China) a few years ago - think I posted a pic here somehwere.

I dunno. The Charmant came out alright in most roadtests, the general conclusion being that it's quite a dated car but some people will like it that way. I also read an early review of the Chrysler 180 which seemed really pleased with it. I think even the Tagora SX was summed up as a nice car with good handling, but a bit too bland to be considered serious competition.I would say most (not all) shite seems to be "shite by circumstance" rather than actually being a bad car.
Posted

Curiously the ARNA/Cherry Europe faired pretty well in road tests when it was launched. But after about a year the press seemed to decide in their editorial that they didn't like it after all.

Posted

Very odd! The beginnings of "modern" car journalism creeping in?Also leads onto why roadtests of today tend to be rubbish - an alright car with the wrong badge will generally end up being given to some young buck who thinks they're the new Jeremy Clarkson and want to make a name for themselves as a hilarious new motoring writer. The conclusion being that the latest Hyundai Sonata/Kia Magentis gets zero stars and a zany review along the lines of "I'd rather drive to work in a burning wheelbarrow", with numerous made-up anecdotes and exaggerated gags about just how truly ghastly this (reasonably competent) car is.But that's a different thread!

Posted

Yes. You're more than likely correct there. However I do have a very hazy memory of a WhatCar? test with a Charmant LE versus a base Solara and something else more mainstream - maybe a Cavalier. We're going back way too many years, but that edition of WhatCar was somewhere I went regularly - possibly an opticians or such like, and it was always there so I read it over and over again. I seem to recall the Charmant got a bit of a pasting and from that moment on I felt sorry for it which is why I smiled a lot when I saw one pottering about.I'll tell you what else modern gets a bit duffed up probably unnecessarily, and that's the Epica. Right there in prime shite territory with the Magentis and the Sonata, and they go against each other in the taxi markets where I used to live. Having been driven around in all three, I can assure you that the Magentis falls apart the quickest, the Sonata next, then the Epica. Meowdchina may have noticed this (or not) too where he was. They are half decent cars.Ought add the Kia Clarus and Proton Impian to the list really.

I love those Epicas, I even went to the trouble of ordering the brochure. The first one I ever saw was a taxi, which helped. I really want one of those petrol ones with the straight six, they sound mental.

I'm gonna question the existence of a Croma V6?

Did a quick search on the Internet and it seems they had an Alfa Romeo 2.5 V6 and box out of an Alfa 164. Bet that's ace.Edit: But hold on, I don't remember there being a 2.5 164. What the!

I thought the Croma's had 2-litre fours in all guises?Wasn't there 3 (maybe 4) trim specs:CHT (pronounced shit)i.e. ( the version my dad had)i.e. SX (maybe) Turbo (for those who wanted a rod through the block really quickly)

You can build your own pov spec Croma V8 Ferrari..........

Well, the Croma I saw simply had V6 on the back with the same typeface and style as the Croma bit. It was a face-lift version - looked brand new (but wasn't).Must have been the Alfa Romeo 75 / 155 V6 engine. 164's were 2.0 and 3.0 V6's.
