I agree she would probably be ok, but as I've already bought the fan and resistor and was going to have to get it done at some point, might as well do it now before she bankrupts me
Cookiesouwest Posted March 8, 2021 Author Posted March 8, 2021 She lives 5 advisories, but she is now legal. Yippee. Another week and a half and @andyberg can give her a blast (slowly as its only 114bhp) round the lanes Kringle, Mrs6C, Split_Pin and 8 others 11

Split_Pin Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 Excellent, mission complete! So you've saved something that had an uncertain future, I'd say that warrants a celebratory drive (to an essential shop). Cookiesouwest 1

Cookiesouwest Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 Shirley the ginger disastra So on 3rd March Shirley threw up an EML and 4 error codes. EML went out next day of its own accord, but as the codes looked like a MAF issue. I ordered one. Work is quiet today, so in a fit of enthusiasm, during a break in the rain, I headed out with my trusty 7mm spanner to replace this. Disconnect the wiring Loosen two 7mm nuts Find that you can't get the pipe off the MAF, so disconnect the other end from the airbox to allow maximum force to be used for wiggling pipes that ain't been off, since it was on the production line. And they are separated In true HBOL fashion, refitting is a reversal of removal. Plug in my torque pro dongle thingy to clear the codes. Then rescan Then cry 😢 Still no EML on and runs OK. Bit of hesitation when revving it, as revs start to drop, revving again gives the hesitation. Fuel pump? Any ideas folks? andyberg 1

andyberg Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Slightly blocked injector? Needs an Italian tune up? Or if its fly by wire maybe a throttle sensor?

Italian tune ups have not made a difference. Not sure about throttle. Dont think its fly by wire, but will check

Split_Pin Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Vauxhall FB pages are useless, full of nuggets. What brand of MAF did you buy?

Cookiesouwest Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 Ok. Weird. Took her for a spirited drive. The previous hesitation at 3k rim has now gone. So the new MAF has done something But she now has 5 fault codes, instead of 4
Cookiesouwest Posted March 11, 2021 Author Posted March 11, 2021 'Expert' on owners club has suggested that the first error code is likely to be failing 02 sensor. The game of 'throw parts at it, till its fixed continues
Split_Pin Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Quick google search says the same, 'experts' eh!

Cookiesouwest Posted March 12, 2021 Author Posted March 12, 2021 Well Shirley is booked into garage next week for investigation and possibly new 02 sensor. Still runs fine, but does smell a bit petrolly, which may indeed indicate knackered lamda sensor - although weird its not throwing EML anymore. Anyway AVAS lol In other news, possible Swede incoming next week, if the price is right andyberg 1
rainagain Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 You don’t have an air leak on the inlet side, so it’s struggling to get the trim right due to the excess air? Might be worth a spray if wd40 or the like around the inlet manifold and any joins to see if it affects the idle. Cookiesouwest 1
Cookiesouwest Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 Shirley now has a new 02 front sensor and no error codes Next up before she leaves the fleet, are two new front tyres. Tubbo, Tickman and GrumpiusMaximus 3
Cookiesouwest Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 R75 update. As I was saving the update above, Rover garage called to give an update. Front of the car is off, ready for her new Rad fan. They also found leaking boost pipe and knackered aircon compressor. Because I'm mental and can't stop spending on fixing cars I've given them the go ahead for the extra work. andyberg, Tubbo and spartacus 3

Just don't bloody sell it in 6 months Cookie, she has to be a keeper now.

Cookiesouwest Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 So today I purchased a new to me motor. Just dropped youngest sproglet at college in Bath and I'm in McDonald's having a salad*, when Mrs CSW sends me a link to an ebay add. As it was located on the way home (if you take the really long way home and drive into the next County), I thought I should drop in. 5 min inspection, 5 min test drive. Not perfect. Been sat for months, but I liked it. Bonus is, its Eur4 compliant, so I avoid the clean air charge in Bristol. Money and documents changed hands. Picking it up tonight. spartacus, Split_Pin, Tubbo and 2 others 5
andyberg Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 And here's me thinking a deposit had been made on a certain swede on this forum... 😜

But not Euro 4 compliant. So I had to pass. I passed on the 9-3 I looked at. So bought something entirely different instead. Kei car incoming
andyberg Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Nissan Figaro, please please please. that would make the best comedy moment of the year so far 🤣🤣🤣 Cookiesouwest 1

Cookiesouwest Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 The Kei car has been collected. No collection thread as this was an unexpected purchase, but here is the wollard shot. Its f*cking tiny! No pez shot as it didn't need any. 92k on clock, decent amount of ticket, no history but maintained by selling garage for last 6 years. Giffers did not hand service history in when they part ex'd. All for 700 quid. First impressions. Handles well, quite chuckable. Makes me grin. Mrs CSW hates it. Thermostat stuck open - 3rd car in a row that I've bought lol Slight hesitation sometimes, like the brakes are being dabbed. Its been standing for 4 months, so an Italian tune up may solve this. Clock / date display not functioning. Outside temp shows as 38 c. Could do with some tyres in the next couple of months. All in all, pretty pleased, due to the grin factor. Autoshite sticker to be applied tomorrow Tubbo, somewhatfoolish, Tickman and 9 others 12
