Looking for a talbot/Dodge/Simca engine-I think!

Some of you (on RR) will know I recently purchased a shagged 1982 Dodge van in Dorset, which was duly collected in that foul storm yesterday. Still-gave it a wash for the 1st time in 27years...

Said vehicle was taken off the road in 1982 with a tadgered h/g, and has sat ever since. Old Sun newspapers, Cheque guarantee cards & sundry other stuff confirms this as broadly accurate. 45k seems about right too

Now -despite it looking like a complete pile of poo-it seems pretty solid, but I'm willing to guess that the bores are kippered-even without looking.

So-rather than go the 2 litre twink transplant route, I'd kinda like it roadworthy for the winter- to which end I need a replacement turnkey-ready to slot in. Dont really care which one (1100,1200, 1500 etc)- as long as it fits -no messing. Swop in a day is the intention.

Except I cant find one. Anywhere. Hardly suprising really.

So-any of you good folk know of one (-southern Uk pref) - that I can swop folding for?

Couple of pics for you to snigger at....

Saw that fine beast on RR along with a Triumph (?)I know both halves of jack shit about these, but would a Horizon engine do the job? Even now, they can't be that hard to find.Good save, BTW.EDIT: to add, I was looking for an engine code, but that van doesn't even appear on Autodata.

Peugeot 309 1.1's (1118cc) and 1.3's (1294cc) up until 1991-92 have the Simca Type 315 engine in as well, so that should broaden your search. After that point they got the TU Pug lump, with different cubic capacities (1124cc and 1360cc).

nice purchase, imagine what it would be worth if it was a VW..ratlook/fadedsignwriting/ankorwax etc etc...

Ta RW-didnt know that. Should help a load.RG -If it had 'VW' in the title, it would have priced itself out of my price range. Just want a small parts carrier- something ''a bit different''

Hope so.see when its cleanedup-prob this weekend. I think its solid ...

Already amember Ian-with the Aronde 'break'.I've asked -so far no response (1 week) -whereas here!!!

Hope you find something with RW's suggestion, there are some engines advertised here but alas, wrong country... wonderful car by the way, glad you got it.

Sod's law or what? My mate's just weighed in a 309 with a decent running engine. However, if the 309 lump will go in then would a 205 engine not fit? Should be easier to source I'd imagine. Also might be worth trying a banger racing forum and seeing if anything turns up?

205 engines won't work as both types are Pug engines (Douvrin "suitcase" and TU), rather than the Simca type. The only one with a similar cc is the Rallye lump, and according to Wikipedia this is just coincidental as it's a bored-out TU 1.1. So 309 it has to be.

I was dreaming about owning that vehicle for days, and getting it roadworthy. Sadly well out of my league ability-wise. So glad it's landed in the hands of a hardcore Autoshiter. Hopefully it will be kept "as is" condition wise rather than restored? It's quite possibly my favourite vehicle ever seen on ebay. Looking forward to seeing more photos hopefully, I love it. 8)8)8)

Thanks to RW they seem to be coming out of the woodwork now.So far, sadly -all way up north -but hopefully a southern one will speak up soon. Its certainly widened the search.Push comes to shove-I'll yank the head -but I think I'll be wasting my time..Starter motors on thepassengerseat too-not looking good....Current intentions are to tidy-not restore. Period rims, reinstate the signwriting, tidy the major dents then fill with 'Shite!

Ace van that. I would proper love one, in fact thats a vehicle I would consider worthy of a cross-channel A-frame mission if a suitable candidate turned up. I think that David Kelly Scrapyard in Wrexham has possibly got a Talbot Alpine in.... it might yield a 1.6 engine and 5-speed box that would turn the van into a right flier! Or what about the crispy blue Chrysler Alpine at Car Transplants that Vixmith was gonna buy? If theyve got the engine still, I could bring it a bit further south for ya. Theyd probably want the big coin for it like. I've also heard a rumour about a fairly famous scrapyard in Essex that has got a late model Talbot Alpine in.Another option might be to use a 1.6 OHC carb engine/box from a peugeot 405 or Citroen BX, I imagine one of those might go in without too much of a war.

What about the engine out of the Scottish Solara in Scrappielad's thread? Is it gone, or too far away? (I'm sure that we could work out some sort of Autoshite relay team to get it down to you!)

If you do go for the one in Fife, I can get it down here for stripping if you want....I'm just North of Newcastle and Carlisle by about 50 miles :D or I'll tow it down to meet you half way if you want

Car Transplants ain't a million miles from me and I have a Transit so could pick an engine up and meet you somewhere/store it for a while if needed.

I wholeheartedly echo m'colleagues sentiments

To the best of my knowledge, the engine was taken out and sold already. Puzzling as I can't think who'd want it!

Nigel, that van is superb, well done saving it and most of all planning to leave it the f*** alone!

You are a true hero NB, so glad it's been saved by someone of your calibre :D

Overwhelming. Thanks guys. Its just another old nail -but I kinda like it.Appreciate all your offers of kindness- why are you so far away?I cant drive anywhere near that far at present, sadly, because of debilitating medical issues. I'm sure I'll find something further south-hopefully soon.I'd LOVE to stick something bigger in it- I've a few Fiat twinks sitting under the bench (-inc an Abarth Strada) that I'm sure could be persuaded in .But I need to keep it simple right now -I don't have the stamina for a lengthy swop-and its gotta be done 'alfresco'.One hard days spannering will reduce me to a quivering wreck for nearly a week -hence the need for simplicity.Strange car this. Badged variously as Simca, Chrysler & Dodge, (registered Dodge) the running gear is Talbot/Peugeot, the brakes & PCD are Fiat. God knows what else I'll find....

Wanted Talbot/Simca/Chrysler/Peugeot engine, must be able to hear running. Ideally 1100/1200/1500, 205 engines will NOT fit so needs to be from a 309 or a Simca/Chrysler/Talbot, probably a Horizon or Alpine etc.

In the south of England somewhere would be best.

Please pm me if you have or know of one as it's easier to reach me that way, cheers.
