That would probably have been the Dublin Corporation / mayoral car back then. They usually took the first plate of the year.

Believe it or not, that tradition only started in 1990. When the new reg system came out in 1987, 87-D-1 was in fact on a beige Peugeot 205, owned by a priest in Rathmines. The Lord Mayor got 87-D-1000 to commemorate Dublin's millennium.

50-D-1 is an import, a period Dublin registration from 1950 would be "ZJ xxxx"

ZJ 5000 is on the current presidential state car, a 1947 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith.

I wonder who got 00-D-2000?

These are owned by the same person. The Merc is incredibly, wonderfully shoddy:

More, within minutes of each other:

Curious Japanese Carina:

I saw this while hiding in some bushes:

There are two of these, identical spec and colour, in use in my locality:

This rather nice Roller is a common sighting in Dublin City:

And lastly, for @michael t:

The photo isn't great, but here it is again in morning rush hour on Tara Street

Superb Stuff!! I'm delighted your finding lots of tat around Dublin as I'd kinda thought I'd spotted most of it. The abandoned Mondeo and the wonderful Yugo (of course!) are highlights!!

Calendar shot? I'm assuming the dash is plastic as it doesn't look cracked in the typical places...

More from London, starting with this "Irish" 300SE appropriately spotted in Kilburn:

Coincidence? I don't know:

40822840863_7905f9cb9b_z.jpg

This is a shockingly poor photo. I heard it before seeing it, and this was the best I could do before it made off up the road:

Kilburn High Road. A very familiar spot. I used to work in an office on Belsize Road just along the way from where you were standing ....

I used to get the bus home from Quex Road. Seen a good few funerals at the church there.

Small world! You'd be more than welcome into the parish clubhouse for a pint if ever you find yourself in that part of the world again ;) I will be based there full-time from August or September next year.

I'm working in Ealing nowadays but, one day,  who knows?

Attended a small local show this morning while home for the weekend. There was some top quality shite in attendance.

This 1979 RHD Niva was superb:

49117420951_d361f25e34_z.jpg

49117620887_4b4894ba80_z.jpg

This is not an actual Austin of America, but it made for a convincing replica at a glance:

When did you last see one of these?

Or these:

This superb little thing stole the show for me:

Honourable mention goes to this thing for a fantastically obnoxious parking attempt:

Some recent sightings.

I don't know what this is, but I heard it before seeing it and just managed to catch it in time:

5* seaside accommodation:

A 94 Hiace, a couple of metres from where I spotted the above 94 Hiace camper:

French? I can't imagine the journey over was particularly enjoyable, but kudos to anyone still using one of these for camping or any kind of long distance travel:

More camper-shite, this time from Poland:

And on an unrelated note, my father, brother & I hope to get this little thing up and running in the new year after a short hiatus off the road. It will be 85 years old in January:

A slight nudge to the top for this thread to combat my lockdown boredom. We'll start with a delightful selection of local finds:

A nice local Roller parked (!) outside the pub:

I miss midweek pints.

Not sure if these will be of much interest; difficult to photo in such a tight space but I did my best:

Great shots and great thread @The Vicar

I too am based mostly in Dublin and am familiar with lots of the ones you posted. While the classic / shite car community isn’t as prolific as in the UK, those that love them really love them. Including me.

Thanks for the kind words CFD. Small community indeed, we were talking at Terenure last year (I had my 924 on the backroads stand).

Hah! Yes. I’ve migrated, but I still post on the old place too. This place is more up my street though

I think we were neighbours until recently. I was on Leeson Street for a while. Do you have a 205? I’m gonna miss Terenure this year, I’m guessing it won’t go ahead

Good man

I don’t really do BR anymore, there’s a few from there on here. This is much more my flavour to be honest. Yes, amongst my shite is the lowly 205 - a roffle win from here! You’ll mostly see me in the P38 but I’m up to my gonads in shite at the moment. Terenure extremely unlikely but hopefully catch up soon man.
