Insurance new driver MG TF

As far as insurance goes, who the registered keeper is is irrelevant with regards to the named driver.  They can be and often are, different.

Classic fronting is when Dad buys a cheap car for his son, registers himself as the main driver but the son drives it every day to work and Dad doesn't drive it often.  Defining it outright is difficult but it's usually pretty obvious to an insurance claims expert.  They will probably ask a lot of questions on the phone, too when you're applying for the insurance.  If he drives it more than a couple of times a week (and more than you), you'll find it difficult to demonstrate to an insurance company that he is not the main driver because they will immediately suspect fronting in the event of a claim.

I have absolutely no problem with a 17-year-old being a named driver on an MGTF.  Good for him.  That sounds like a lot of fun and will definitely stand out with his mates when he does take it out.  When I passed my test I would have loved to had a go in one.

Insurance man's hat on

Young lad has access to a 2 seater sports car , of course he's the main driver ,at his age I'd never be out of it :D

have you tried a quote with his own policy

The insurance company really didn't ask any of these questions, he is just a named driver. No asking how often he drove it compared to me or my mother or him.

I would say if he is a named driver on two (possibly three) vehicles then no problem.

If he crashes in to you you get paid out. Hope he don't hurt himself.

Actually didn't try them yet but will tomorrow, got a bit sidetracked the fj lady recommended Adrian flux and it was a reasonable quote.

I will try them though, I got a bit excited when the quote was within affordable and I just want to let the boy drive something cool as well as grandma's golf! (which is being given to him, complicated life might be my car)

Sometimes it's good to be different.

I'm glad I didn't front my lad.

Had 2 bumps and two speedings in a Classic mini in the first 3 months.

Was just before they took your licence off you and made you have another test.

It is a big risk, nippy car , youth, enthusiasm, no experience.

it reminds me of when I was buying the invacar, the daughter of the seller was there

and she was a bit bemused/befuddled/amazed by the fact I managed to get an Invacar Model 70 as my first car and she was saying that she wanted a Classic Mini as her first car but her parents would not let her get one!
