Nice way to rub salt in the wounds  My crappy Polish built Italian designed rustbucket of a 500 hasn't had any problems worth noting. Not like those supposedly reliable Toyota'sBefore anyone tells me to stop being mean, I've only ever owned Italian and French cars so this is payback for all the Fix It Again Tony remarks and French car insults :D

Yeah, the amount of people who actually care is minimal sadly. Whilst I'm not that bothered about tatty little pieces of crap getting scrapped it's sad to see low mileage clean examples of cars being scrapped needlessly.

but if the owners want rid for a new car,and nobody buys it,they would be daft to knock back the scrappage offer.not a popular comment i bet,but its very true.

True, a relative has just scrappaged his old Fiesta for a brand new Fiesta. To be fair the old one was well worn from 13 years of daily commuting in heavy traffic, but I was amazed how liitle interest he took in buying the new one. He automatically bought a Ford because he always did, in spite of suggestions that he looked at the Mazda 2, Alfa Mito, and various Hyundais, all of which were cheaper and probably better. No wonder we're seeing some odd results in the new car sales figures.

Rather, sadly to most people the newer the plate the better the car. We got our car in July and people kept on asking me why I didn't wait the extra 6 weeks to get it on a 59 plate  Fokk off, I want to drive my car, enjoy it and go places and I'm not bothered about showing off some poxy plate  These are our 2 current cars and tbh I'm under no illusions as to which of the two is the better car!http://members.iinet.net.au/~fenix1983/ ... Yeah, some people get in a rut when it comes to buying cars. A friend of mine has owned two new cars in his life and both Festers despite there being far better options out there, I suspect when his PCP deal *shakes head* runs out on this one he'll buy another one.... He got parking sensors on it too and just a couple of weeks ago reversed into someone elses car

To be fair new cars are so badly overtyred that they're **** in the snow. Our 500 500 weighs 860kg's or something and came with 195's because I ticked the 16" wheel option (silly I know) and it was terrible even in a tiny bit of snow. But I got some winter tyres on some cheap 14" steelies and all is good now. But seriously, I reckon most cars come with tyres which are probably 20 or 30mm too wide, if they came with 155's as they should you'd see a lot less people getting stuck in the snow :)

Yes! A saloon MK1 Legacy! Love them.

Yeah they're pretty rare here. Back in Australia where I'm from you'd probably see one a day though. I've only ever seen another like the wifes (a turbo) in the whole almost 4 years I've lived in the UK. If you're interested this months Evo has a comparison test between the Legacy Turbo and the Galant VR4 :)

I'm unfortunate enough to live opposite a Vauxhall main dealer (sorry all Vauxhall fans but I'm not one of you) and a little while ago, as I pulled out of my drive one weekend a lovely bright red Lancia Y10 Turbo drove past right infront of me. I watched it turn into the Dealers and thought no more of it, untill I saw it being carted off on the back of a transporter with a load of shitey old sheds about a week later. Sorry, but the owner who had that kind of car knew exactly what he had and what he was doing, but the money obviously mattered more. Shame...............TWAT

As someone who spends his working life prowling the motorways of this septic isle I have the pleasure of seeing many transporter loads of scrappage victims off to the frag machine. Almost without fail there will be at least one Freelander amongst them. Are they really that bad? Or is the average Freelander owner the sort to be taken in with this bollocks?

Got to be a combination of the 2 surely :)

It's not a popular opinion Fiatdaft, but I can't help but agree with you. I'm anti scrappage BTW, and found the only realistic attitude to take during the Fuego debacle was that of ambivalence.I imagine you have a fairly unique perspective on this. Who else (other than Pete M perhaps) actually works at a new car retailer and is seeing the scheme unfold first hand?I know DW saved his Equipe from the scheme, and that Lukas managed to skillfully divert several OJCs from meeting their demise in Austria. But who else has managed to save anything? Or, to be more precise, has the space and money to take something in off the scheme?Horses for courses.

Or, in the words of LR enthusiast mate, 'Freelanders are Land Rovers minus all the good bits, ability and longevity. Take all that away, replace with utter shite, and then add a K Series engine'.Now imagine that in a thick Glaswegian accent, prefaced with random bouts of 'shite'. You have your answer right there :DI have to confess that I drove an early one and quite liked it. It had the 1800 K Series and sounded quite thrummy. Then again I've no idea what I'm on about, so my views are best avoided.

I must say Wat, that is a very good point. It is not unlike the guy who lives local to me who sent a stretched Farina around the oval. A shame to see it go that way but would I be prepared to take it off him and restore it? Would I fuck. Asking ourselves honestly. If you owned a £500 banger and someone offered you £2000 for it would you turn it down? I know I wouldn't, regardless of what was going to happen to it.Oh, and I'm anti-wastage as well! The sooner it's over the better.

Well I sell new Fiats, and I have a love hate relationship with the scrappage scheme. Love - because I'm doing loads of deals and most cars seem to be T plate KAs, R plate Astras and alike. At least half my customers would not have bought a new car if it was not for scrappage, I alwats ask them, and on a lot of cars it does work out a genuinely good deal - Panda £4995 anyone? But I hate when Ive seen nice cars get the bullet. The Vauxhall dealer I was at 7 months ago took in a MK1 Transit camper :( . The worst I've had here was a couple of rusty Minis and a MK1 MR2. The dealer down the road took in a mint Yugo Tempo  I did do I deal with a mint 1984 Polo bredvan. Was like brand new inside and out, 45k full history kept in a heated garage in showroom condition. I could not believe the car when I saw it, it was stunning! He ordered a 500 on scrappage, but luckily it arrived with the wrong spec and he cancelled the order

You did indeed. And in doing what you did you proved your point. Many of us on here complained and hated \ continue to hate the scheme but couldn't do much about it because of space \ time \ money issues.

Happy 500 owner here. The Panda is a stupidly good deal, a whole lot of reliable car for not much money, if not for my wife not liking the sladsided looks and cheap and cheerful looks of the Panda I'd have got one.

Yeah 500s are great actually. But i've got the same problem with the girlfriend, trying to get her to buy a Panda as her X plate corsa is falling apart but she dont like 'em....I am not enthusiastic by new cars in anyway, which is hard when trying to sell them! But the 500 with its retro cool and the Panda with no nonsence basic motoring mean that I enjoy selling them. Thats why I moved to Fiat :D

Worse. They're fucking shit and to be avoided like the plague.

I got the feeling from the guy I dealt with that fish were just jumping into the boat with the Panda and 500 on scrappage.Funny how women don't seem to like the Panda at all, I guess women just go for the cutesy charm of the 500. Was certainly the case with my wife.

When I delivered cars for Fiat/Alfa this happened quite regularly. How the hell they can mess up in such a way beggars belief.

In my mates MOT station today, F reg E30 BMW 316 moredoor in Black.

145k on the clock, one tiny tiny dent on the bootlid, paint faded but saveable, driver seat outer bolster worn, totally straight and pretty much rust free, non-scuffed bumpers that I'd have killed for when I had the 325i, original dealer plates, keyfob and rear window sticker, original wheeltrims. Genuine OEM old giffer box of tissues on shelf. Would make a lovely, lovely car for someone if it wasn't going in for a Kia next week :(

Argh. The exact sort of person you wouldn't expect to scrap a car. Bet that would have still been going when the Kia went to the scrappers too..... :(
