Yep, it’s them. Strangeangel just stopped to get some fuel one exit from home at Woolley Edge services. 180 miles in one go!

Well, we made it home... I was going to say without incident but I called in at the Tesco Express for a few last-minute supplies. The car re-started, but this happened:

I had a look under the bonnet and I can see the big lever that the cable operates to start the car, but no sign of a spring or anything.

Anyway, the car was a joy to drive home and I'll have a look at that tomorrow. Great to meet you and your family, Jon AAAAAA+++++ WOULD BUY OLD CAR FROM AGAIN.

Amazing, that was the first ever thing that went wrong for me! There’s like a cable clamp on the end and I put a shortened bike spoke on the starter motor lever because it fitted perfectly. Can’t believe it never budged until now!

Oops, that might have been our extreme roundabout leaning over fun with all 3 of us in the car. The earlier boots do that - I probably should have known better...

Ah. Are they a big job to replace on these?

No, you should be able to just hook them back on. Clip the cable ties off first. There’s like a rubber ring thing as standard but they hold on better with the cable ties.

Actually, just seen it’s torn. Bugger. They’re not too difficult to replace. The CV joint unbolts at the drum, undo the hub nut with a big bar and it slides out. It’s a wheels off job but not too difficult.

Right, well it starts again now! Bodgery ahoy - in the shape of half a Honda 90 brake cable inner -  until I can find a new one...

Went to our local Citroen specialists this lunchtime...

"The BX is still working"

"Good!"

"The 205 convertible has gone"

"Well done!"

"And I've bought a Citroen Ami"

<raises eyebrows>

He also says the CV boots aren't a bad job, so it's going there tomorrow! Lazy I am.
