event Yardley Gobion Festival of Transport, 1 June 2019

It's been a busy weekend for the Maxi with local shows both yesterday and today.  Yesterday we decided to take a look at this free event in the village of Yardley Gobion (between Milton Keynes and Northampton) that we'd never been to before. A great turnout of cars to suit every taste but it was bloody hot!

Silver Aero looks an interesting thing.

Yardly Gobion was one of those funny  road sign names I remember when we used to go up the A5 in the '60's and '70's. One of those signs you remember - though the village was off the road so never saw it. In those days the A5 was very quiet because it had been by-passed by the M1 - so my dad used to use it. It seemed  a very quiet and lonely road in those days - and very fast as it was a former trunk road. Much more modern development up there these days I guess (they had just started building Milton Keynes when we went in the 60's)  and some new roads I see on the map (and a relief road proposed for Towcester) so if I went back it would be quite different I guess and choked with traffic. So some happy memories of Yardly Gobion.

There were quite a few other landmarks on the way - I also remember the 'Laughing Dog Brand' dogfood factory with its big sign and art deco office when we turned onto the A45 further on. Funny how you remember these things. A couple of words triggers a whole era.

Having looked at Wikipedia I can that see apart from the car show not much has happed in the Gobion since the 60's.

Oh Pater, that ghastly bursar has gone and bought a Vauxhall. You can’t seriously expect me to attend a school where the staff go round looking like they are in sales. Parkins minor’s father moved him as soon as he found out.
