Air in ABS unit, Renault Espace

Anyone able to shed any light?

Chap a work has an espace diesel as well as some other stuff, and he's had a go at swapping a front calliper over, which has led to air in the ABS unit, and he is now struggling to bleed it.

it's a fairly modern* Espace with a V6 diesel I believe.

Can you pull a fuse for the ABS and default the units to fully open to get them bled through?, or is this something that just won't work and he needs some uber expensive dealer only tools to fix?

Any help welcomed.

I know the VAG diagnostic software has a setting that lets you cycle the ABS pump - thee my be similar for Renault?

It's likely SiC would know:)

I bet he just needs an eezi-bleed or one of those vacuum pumps to suck the fluid through

Ive never had to bleed an abs unit any differently from any other brake system ( Honda ALB excluded) . Ive even taken vag modules apart and just bled them like any other car .

Start with the furthest away wheel and work closest. Vacuum works well to get it started then maybe an assistant to push the last few pumps on each corner.

Has the split reservoir run low on one side and they havent noticed it ? Easily done on some tanks . Mk7 transit im looking at you !!!

is there definitely air in the ABS unit? Im not sure how he managed that unless he was faffing around with the hose off, or after fitting the new caliper, didn't bleed it immediately ...

Id say its just copped that the reservoir has run low on bleeding n flashed up the ABS light, as a default setting.

I had to replace a hose n fit a new fitting, n flare the line end on my 04 audi last week; n it did this sensing a change in the reservoir level n while the ABS light didn't illuminate I had the (!) legend flashing constantly n STOP BRAKES on the main display - which went off after about 20miles of driving...

Didn't clamp the hose and left the calliper off, drained it all through.  School boy error really.

Said he's done the usual bleed process, but it's still spongy.

One thing he could try is finding a quiet gravel (or similar) car park and keep braking hard so that the ABS activates. Keep checking the level, topping up and repeating as necessary. Hopefully the ABS pump working will push the air out of the system.

Not something I've tried but heard of this method being used successfully in the past.
