Mk6 Fiesta Water Leak

Recommended Posts

About a year ago same sort of time I cleaned the plenum drains out to allow water that runs down the windscreen then along the channels to drain away properly. Quite often as if common with a lot of vag cars crap namely leaves block these up and water builds up and enters the car through small vents.

Still got water making its way in somehow to the passenger side when I go through puddles. I must also note that I dont even have to drive through puddles particularly fast for the water to make its way in. When I drive through too I don’t drive so fast that the water splashes right up to windscreen and then it comes in. As I say, I dont have to be driving particularly fast and it starts dribbling in. Looks like it is trickling down from behind the centre console!?

Please help!

Well, you've come to the right place! I have 2 of the leakiest cars known to man...

However I suspect your fault is not rot or poorly fitted parts from the factory. The centre console is where a heater matrix may be. Does the car smell like curry inside? Windows steam up more than they should? Loosing coolant? Is the water 'sticky and oily' to touch when you rub it between your fingers?

If that matrix checks out ok then look for grommets or seals that may be dislodged or not replaced properly in the bulkhead.

Thanks for the reply - only happens when going through puddles - car does not use any water and coolant is still as fresh and correct level when I had cambelt done two plus years ago - it used no oil or water! Its not the heater matrix. The only mist on the windows is from the fact it is damp inside the car.

I too believe it is a grommet of something down under there that may have come out or something so any splash from a puddle can come straight in.... any idea if there are any grommets or whatnot under here on these fiestas?

Might be a grommet missing on the bulkhead somewhere..........Is the battery on that side? Check for rot.........

I'm sure I read on these there is a bulkhead seam that on some cars was the wrong way around so the seam was facing up and not down if you get my description and not sealed correctly so caused water ingress into the cabin

Thank you - I follow what you are saying - would you happen to have any diagrams at all of where exactly I should be looking for this seal?

Thank you

Thank you

I havnt unfortunately it's a hazy memory of something I read about, it's not so much of a seal it's where 2 panels overlap, I'm sure if you look behind the engine or jack it up and inspect from underneath you will spot it

Torn boot where the steering column goes through the bulkhead?

Thanks will check this also and report back

This is what I cleaned the other day and how it was found - a lot of detritus was found as I expected....
