I'd sort the vacuum pipes before worrying about the codes. If it thinks it's getting more boost than it is then it'll be overfueling.

The codes aren't of concern as the LAMBDA SOND light comes on and off erratically. Vac is of much more concern as I'm very aware they're fucked (as is the PCV system).

Vac line to the wastegate replaced. 

 

An hell of a lot more pull, and whistly noises on overrun.

 

That certainly wasn't working properly.

 

What will a service and PCV flush do?

Tidy. Not many face-lift models on an L reg

 

The V5 came today, and I found out why. 

 

Date of first registration 28/2/94. One day later and it'd be on an M!

It'd still be on an L in March 1994.

Hated August and the midnight deliveries for idiots.

A little more work today - still waiting on the head gasket for the Civic to be delivered, so with nothing to do I got an expansion tank from ECP as the price difference between it and the internet was minor. You can see where the old one had failed, along with the return pipe being holed as well. Both have been replaced.

Expansion tank replacement yielded no difference. In fact if anything it matters worse, it'd empty the tank in 10 miles (it probably uses more coolant than fuel). No overheating though, and the area around the tank is piss wet so I doubt HGF (famous last words).

We suspected the replacement return hose wasn't fitting well and/or needs better clamps.

Checked it today after a short run and the bottom of the tank was all wet - no evidence of a leak from the return line, but lifting the tank out (it just slots into the inner wing) revealed the bottom of it was soaked. The hose clamp was loose. Wonder if that'll solve it. If not I'll have to look into the return hose again.

Next ports of call are the O2 sensor and a PCV service, as well as some new numberplates.

I hate it when numberplates go porous & let the coolant out...
