"Cruise control buttons on the wheel work as expected and the light on the instrument cluster works too"?

Posted

I meant in the diagnostics - when I interrogate the button status and run the self test on the cluster

It shows each button go to “active” when I press them

Dog’s quite keen (although she isn’t so keen on jumping in - tailgate is a bit high... yes I know it folds down before you say it :D)

Noticed earlier that the rear light units aren’t a pair - strangely it’s the opposite side to a dent on the tailgate that is different.

Not really surprising it’s had a knock or two in 17 years but it’ll bug me forever now I know!

Sorry but the paint and interior combo is fit.

No interior pix?

Looks really nice tbh. Manual or auto?

Auto.

It’ll be getting a full photoshoot session next weekend

I’m really happy with it so far - yes it might horrendously shit itself tomorrow but that’s the fun of the chase right? :D

Fuel economy is improving now it’s actually being used properly again too - up to 20mpg now, almost efficient

Along with “exhaust camshaft sensor - signal” but we won’t talk about that here

Yeah that would have me panic about a slipped timing chain but that's just because I've got a Merc parked up the side of the house with that very fault

The mahogany leather etc is listed on the invoice :D I’ll scan it at some point

Surprisingly they only took a £1000 deposit for it - I would’ve wanted far more to not be lumbered with that colour choice if I was the dealer!!

One of the main Maserati dealers said they've been known to ask for full payment up front when they've seen some of the horrific colour choices people with money make , the problem with Maserati is for a price you can have any colour paint / interior combination you want .

Runs fine with no EML so I’m just going to remain ignorant for now

It's the best way , any squeaks or rumbles can be cured with the volume knob on the stereo , if you want to add Spotify to an ancient stereo Bluetooth to FM devices are available for continuous ignorance of said noises

Are the 3.0 in these generally reliable?

Generally reliable might be pushing it but it’s the best of the bunch

I don't think "generally reliable" is too strong.

I like the E53. That looks to be a well looked after half decent one.

And at least the interior isn't black.

22 mpg will be as good as you see day to day mixed use.

What mileage is on it?

When was the g/box oil changed? Should be around every 90k Mike’s according to ZF.

This sealed for life shite is purely a sales gimmick and life for BMW means 4 years so most lease companies are clear of it by 90k.

Mine had been done at 92k. Now with 186k I had it done again. Around a £300 touch at an Indy.

151k. Haven’t been through all of the paperwork yet although it has a fully stamped service book a mix of main agent and BMW specialist (and finally the dealer I bought it from so meh on that)

My overall impression of it (and exactly how it was sold to me by the dealer who was refreshingly free of the usual bullshit patter) is that it has been well used but by an owner not afraid to also keep it maintained. Exactly what you want when you’re buying at the “shite” end of the market.

Rather than one that’s been running around on a council estate for a few years with limo tints, chrome and a questionably spaced plate, anyway.

No doubt it’ll take some money to keep it on the road but I feel it’s a decent base to start from if a cheap E53 is what I’m after

When's the mot up? Wbod it until its due then make a decision then!

It’s got almost a year’s test - doesn’t want for anything at the moment apart from minor things to tidy it up a bit.

Any two bucket wronguns got an opinion on how to sort the windscreen out? It was swirl marks all over like it’s been cleaned with a scourer, so does the rear window. Fine during the day but a bit of a pain at night.

This stuff is dear but i have heard good reports on it. Depends how bad the glass is.

A mate had a 3.0d one, and told me the economy was a bit shit.

A pez on LPG mightn't be terrible

This is the sort of car where if you can afford to run one, fuel cost is probably irrelevant!

Its why I stay away from 4l jags etc, I can afford to buy one, but not to actually drive it far/at all

Posted

For the mileage most people do these days the cost of running a big petrol car V running a diesel car might be £10 a week , or 3 pints in a pub, or 22 fags or one cinema ticket, or 2 takeaway meals or 90 seconds with a cheap hooker.

what I'm saying is everyone spends their money differently, I'd sooner be driving something that puts a smile on my face than any of the above
