Lever usually = Bowden cable

I'll be breaking one of these in a month or so, it's got digital climate control though so may not be of any use. Let me know if it is though

When it stops blowing, you trade it in for a younger model, don't you? ;)

Rotating knobs are often still a Bowden cable, with a rack & pinion type arrangement.  On the LDV it was the clip which holds the end of the cable sheath in place which had come off, so the knob was just pulling the entire cable assembly up and down rather than pulling the cable through its sheath.

I had the exact same fault with my Hyundai.

Here you can see the rack and pinion system and the clip that holds the cable sheathing.
