kinkersaab Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I have the chance of one, it seems crazy money, but is very nice..advice sought its a nice 1969 manual in red, usual story of having spent many years in storage, and was recomissioned a few years ago, looks like lots of money spend doing it well. I was expecting it to be a £4000 to £5000 type price...it isn't... should it be? Thanks

trigger Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Oh that looks like it could be lovely, I'd really like a classic Volvo, Amazon's seem to be out of my grasp now pricewise but these are still just about affordable with having the extra touch of being luxurious too. As for price I'd though £4-5000 was about right?

wuvvum Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 How much is it? To me £5K sounds like a lot for a 164, however nice it may be.
kinkersaab Posted September 5, 2018 Author Posted September 5, 2018 He says " insurace value from the club " is £9000 - £10,000" I think. I can in no way see anyone paying that for it, i think it is £4000 to £5000 s worth to the right man.... not sure i would be the right man, even at that. its a car I saw drive past me and then googled to find its owner and said if it ever were to be for sale, I would be interested. It is ,so he has.....
Amishtat Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 As the owner of one I'd like to say otherwise but surely 5 tops if it's as nice as it looks. Overdrive or not? Dan the van 1
Amishtat Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Must be a proper early one not to have power steering
wuvvum Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 And will be an absolute tw*t to manoeuvre as well, even with the vast steering wheel the early ones came with - that 6-pot is not a light engine. Also, £10K?? (although it would be nice it it were true as it'd mean mine was worth more than the £800 I currently value it at...) Uncle Jimmy and JeeExEll 2
Uncle Jimmy Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Does look to be in A1 condition, then again so did mind from 10 yards, it was good in all the important places though.I think £5k would be my price for a very good example, Def no more. They are a bit undervalued. Check the spare wheel wells, they rust out plus the joint where the front valance meets the wings- those two areas will tell you if it's been kept undercover. Another important area is around the bonnet hinges. Much as I like the 164 I wouldn't have another unless it was both cheap and in very good condition!Mine was both when I got it.
Uncle Jimmy Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Agreed insurance on mine was £3500...I think he's a fibber.
Uncle Jimmy Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 ...Also the 71-73 models are the best, better paintwork, seem more rust resistant and nicer interior, especially dashboard. Arguably the later, larger rear light arrangement suits the 164 better. wuvvum 1
