It has a very positive action (like it should), and doesn't get stuck anywhere in its travel on either piston. Happy with that. PhilA Posted October 22, 2020 Author Posted October 22, 2020 Dropped the oil tonight. Looks pretty reasonable still, which is good. Flushing it won't hurt though. Side pan off. Access could be better... It was easier on the bench. Have worked in worse spaces though. Pipework removed, but not without a fight. Reverse lockout pawl is sitting on top of a tooth. I need to see if it'll rotate with the slack in the rear axle to sit in a gap for reassembly. New governor, old governor and valve block. The old governor appears to be a hybrid of new weights and old body. The new one is all the later variant. It's not moving freely, that'll be the issue. That's the end cap of the main valve set and the pistons are meant to fall into their bores under their own weight. That wasn't happening. They're fairly scored from years of use, the manual says not to use abrasives but there were a few burrs that were preventing correct operation so I carefully removed those. Those now move smoothly. The finish on them is still pretty good considering their age. The main valves were dirty and again lightly scored, so they recieved the same treatment. They move freely now without sticking so that's gone back together and is ready for reassembly. Phil scdan4, LightBulbFun, Mally and 8 others 11
PhilA Posted October 24, 2020 Author Posted October 24, 2020 This afternoon, we had 3" of rain in 30 minutes. Just a small storm, then. During this, I got the new governor in, the fluid sleeve centered on the governor, valve block in and the reverse lockout stop set to the prerequisite 1/2". Torqued everything down as per the book and put the lid back on. Pulled the carb off and installed the heat shield. Got it all back together and awaiting transmission fluid. It mostly behaves like in the video but occasionally not, and it did something that caught the old brain cells- going into reverse the parking pawl engaged. That would only happen when there's no oil pressure, so I'm going to pull the pressure regulator out and see if it's sticking. Phil somewhatfoolish and lesapandre 1 1

PhilA Posted October 26, 2020 Author Posted October 26, 2020 Rewired the car to accept the more modern (and cheap) 2 pin blinker relay. Stole the one from the Renault and now I have working turn signals, albeit with the new TIK TAK TIK TAK noise this one makes (electronic). Phil egg 1

It was the horrifically complicated type that has the litz wire heater, two sets of points, a big coil, lots of junk inside and it went plik-toink. Very similar to the type found on Morris Minors and the like. LightBulbFun 1
