PhilA Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Oven cleaner was a good call. Phil catsinthewelder, egg, LightBulbFun and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 Cream paint on a piece of wire. Words done. With some pillarbox red. Cleaned up and assembled into the frame. And on the car. That makes me happier. It's not perfect but it's a lot better. Phil spartacus, Amishtat, Skizzer and 19 others 22
PhilA Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 What a lot of work for such a small visual impact. Progress is progress though. Phil busmansholiday, Skizzer, mercedade and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 I put a little paint. Phil adw1977, LightBulbFun, vulgalour and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 No airbrush on it, no. Once everything's bolted back on there's not much room for one anyway. Phil
PhilA Posted July 6, 2019 Author Posted July 6, 2019 A period toolbox to live in the trunk. Was my late grandfather in law's, he was a shipbuilding welder by trade. Phil dome, paulplom, SiC and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 A hot couple hours spent under the car today. That looks like it could have been made just a few weeks ago. Dirt removed, old paint came off with it. Scrubbed down with a wire brush around the welds. Salt doesn't harm cars? Piffle. Applied some krylon rubberized underseal. It appears to be the same stuff used on the car originally. It's poopoo brown and sprays on looking like it was applied with a trowel. As such, it received a coat of black paint (can says it's paintable). Doesn't look like much, but with the garage at body temperature, after a couple hours even the big drum fan does not help. Ripped the paper off the exhaust tonight, looks good under there. Other side to do then that's the hard to reach parts complete. After that, the inner wings, then the suspension cradle then.. it's done. Phil dome, BlankFrank, Skizzer and 10 others 13
PhilA Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 Neighbor Ken had a few minutes. I now have horns with brackets (cleaned up and painted, too). Tested and they even still work after being welded! Phil RayMK, Tickman, adw1977 and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted July 9, 2019 Author Posted July 9, 2019 Test fit success! Phil spartacus, Skizzer, mat_the_cat and 9 others 12
PhilA Posted July 9, 2019 Author Posted July 9, 2019 Bolted to the firewall, tuned up for maximum volume and a slight discord. All through large gauge wiring from the relay. Phil spartacus, egg, Skizzer and 2 others 4 1
PhilA Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 More bodywork. One rusty scabby inner wing, scarred by years of having a leaky battery against it. A little bit of my inner Bob Ross applied Hey presto, it's all nice and shiny black. Other side to do next Phil RayMK, stonedagain, Skizzer and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 Gonna be wet and windy the next couple days. Hopefully storm Barry leaves my roof alone. Phil
hairnet Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 to me to you oh wait hope barry misreads the map and see only water LightBulbFun 1
PhilA Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 No, it's heading this way.. hopefully we only see tropical storm force winds (<74mph). Phil
PhilA Posted July 12, 2019 Author Posted July 12, 2019 This bit unbolts. Had five minutes tonight so I unbolted it. Through here, you are meant to adjust the valve clearances. I'm just going to clean and paint, then reassemble. Typically some clown has lost half of the bolts. Phil paulplom and scdan4 2
hairnet Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 did you get barried or blown by barry hope it wasnt too bad - they showed the path of it this morning and there were lots of reds and greens on the map (bad) tooSavvy 1
tooSavvy Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 ^^^^ give him time to respond... He will have to paddle about 2miles to find a mobile signal ?
busmansholiday Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Just watching BBC weather, fuck me, I hope you miss the worst, having your garage roof ragged and the beautiful motor damaged after all your work doesn't bare thinking about.
PhilA Posted July 13, 2019 Author Posted July 13, 2019 Yeah, still here. Been at work coordinating a crew of guys putting generators out to keep the cable TV on. About to head home and check in. Phil paulplom 1
PhilA Posted July 13, 2019 Author Posted July 13, 2019 Nothing quite like crawling around on an old corrugated iron roof, redoing where nails have pulled loose, in a tropical storm! Brisk and refreshing! Phil Twiggy, puddlethumper, Shep Shepherd and 3 others 4 2
PhilA Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 Looks like the worst of it has passed by. Tonight should be significantly better than last night. Phil LightBulbFun and tooSavvy 2
cort1977 Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Glad you're ok Phil stonedagain, PhilA, LightBulbFun and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 Yeah, nearly back to normal now here. We've been working hard (woo being a utility company), but this will be a month of recovering from stuff being broken. Phil tooSavvy and LightBulbFun 2
STUNO Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Glad to hear all is well. Assume you will be busy at work for a while so not expecting much progress for a while.
PhilA Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 Just got the last of our sites back onto utility power. Another late evening organizing that coupled with the big list of things everybody wants from me because they been at home drinking beer watching the storm all weekend and are nice and relaxed... Phil
PhilA Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 Cleaned up the other chassis leg, painted it black. Coated with underseal. And painted black because the brown is ugly. Found a sneaky body number, which matches the latter half of the VIN. Phil LightBulbFun, vulgalour, RayMK and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted July 17, 2019 Author Posted July 17, 2019 Sprayed all the lower sections of the body with rubberized undercoat. Finished up in color. That's the firewall pretty much done. Phil vulgalour, Mally, LightBulbFun and 5 others 8
