First shite post, Nissan Sunny N13 Auto Good? or...

Ry Cooder - you have taste.

What his guitar sounds like coming out of a sunny is another matter...

Cheers Bren! Love Ry Cooder! I play a lot of slide guitar myself so he's the man for that! I can imagine it sounds awful in a sunny. My escort has the factory head unit into a 300watt amp (tucked under the dash) into two pioneer speakers... that still isnt that great haha!

If you haven't yet, check out the eBay Tat Thread as it's a great mix of hand-picked dreadful cars ranging from hopeless to adequate.

For example, yesterday this Sunny estate was posted in there which would probably fit your criteria https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-SUNNY-ESTATE-1-3DX-MANUAL-PETROL-BEIGE/283073100817 Providing it doesn't have the same issues as the sparkly beige Sunny that kicked this thread off, of course.  Might be a bit buzzy on the motorway with the 1300, and you don't get the auto, but the price isn't too absurd on the assumption it's as healthy as it looks in the pictures.

Good luck!

I've been following your Escort thread over on the other forum for a while.  Anyone that can keep an Escort of that era in fine fettle while regularly used isn't really going to have too much trouble with 80s/90s Japanese stuff.

I now have a new excuse to waste more time haha! Love that Cavalier Estate! Think i saw the Sunny estate, seems to be gone now? Good to know the Escort has some love, it seems to be in an odd place in the classic scene... somewhere between tat and chav. I have a few carb issues (i think) with this one as its got the VV manual choke. I guessed the Sunny could have similar which would have been a little to much to live with i think.

90s cassettes sound good! if you see any classic 90s bands in there, let me know. Some of my cassettes have melted during owning this particular Escort. its a bit of a greenhouse.

You can buy them from Tesco i noticed recently but theyre about £5 a pack. A couple of years ago people used to give me hand fulls of the things!!

Those Sunnys are pretty nippy things, even in 1.3 guise, as they are light, I'm sure a forum member (Spottedlaurel?) had a 1.6LX hatch, and it was a pretty quick car, albeit that was a manual. The facelift versions are often very high spec, even the 1.4LS had standard central locking, electric windows all round, and a stereo, I learnt to drive in a later gen Sunny 1.4L, and that was fast as fook, twin cam, 16 valve engine, and post driving test motorway lesson, I didn't hit 110 passing a fire engine, honest LOL

Welcome! I've fancied a Sunny like that for some time, I nervously took Spottedlaurels for a spin a while back and it was very solid feeling.

How about this?

MOT is short. And it will drop oil. But they're decent smokers and other than rot are usually reliable. However if you're averse to French stuff (and I don't blame you if you are) it's probably not ideal.

that sunny was overpriced, they are pretty bulletproof. The bluebird was the weapon of choice for private hire taxis and taxi drivers like cheap reliability.

haha! good to know dude! Hows the mk4? Not noticed it when i've been driving past to my folks?

The mk4 is good, its currently away from its usual space getting made 100% again im to just under 190 hours on it, I can't actually believe how many local folks I know who have approached me asking about its whereabouts saying that though everyone I seem to meet knows where my house is

Amazing work on the mk4 !! wish i had your welding skills. I've been heading back up from London to Stoke (mainly to nick my dads Triumph Spitfire to impress my Manc mates) a few times and noticed it had gone. Thought you'd be fixing it up though. Nice to read the story behind it.

Not terribly averse to French cars. my first car was a 98 Saxo. I just thought Japanese for reliable and maybe a bit better features than the Escort. i have no features in the Escort so, it wont be hard to beat that.

The worst thing is the insurance being a musician, if i did anything else id say a different profession. I have a clean licence for 13 years and 8 years no claims... everything is between £550-800... so i think ive just got to really want it if im going to have two lots of insurance  :-(  Maybe its not terrible but i was hoping to tack on an extra car for like £300, adrian flux wont have that.

A Blubberd is generally a tough old thing too, they had dual trip meters, so clearly Nissan had a target market for them, I've driven a very leggy ex minicab, and it still felt OK to drive, was an LX, so was fairly poverty spec, but had PAS. Later models had a much higher spec, and they are still pretty cheap

Perhaps a Rover 200/400 (R8) might be worth a look. They tend to be reasonably well equipped, well made and can be picked up relatively cheaply.

I have also noted that they are comparatively cheaper to insure than the equivalent Escort or Astra, which would probably be a bonus to you. There are also several owners on here who would be able to give some more detailed pointers on what to look for if one did interest you.
