Non-tragic sales - Beemer and Alfa

Right, I've got too many circa 1990 executive saloons and by that I mean both of them.

 

So, contestant number one is an Alfa Romeo 164 V6 auto with a temptingly long MoT and tax situation (both March 2010), some crustiness in places and some stopping issues but by golly can she sing you a tune. She'll keep you cool too - working Climate Control! £395.

 

Contestant number two is blind in one eye, a bit bashed about and if she was human, she'd have a tattoo reading Davey over a heart. Crossed out. She also sings nicely but is the wrong side of legal, lacking both Tax and Test. She posseses a manual gearbox and clear front indicators, plus a NI pikey plate. She's one classy lady. £150 but will take offers. Go on. Give her some loving! Oh - just remember. Her battery is like Fearn Cotton's chest. Utterly flat. Responds well to a bit of cable action though.

They are for a few weeks! Best solution would be to hire one, then if there's a problem it's not your responsibility to sort out but you still get to experience the good side of things - the drive, the sound....

...........the misery. Had two Alfas both of which were the most perverse bloody cars I've owned. Had the myserious ability to breakdown, and then "fix themselves" fooling you into belieiving the problem had gone away..........until you had to be somewhere, in a hurry, and in a reasonably presentable condition.........

You Brits don't know how good you've got it.I'd just luuuurve that 164. Any functional Alfa 164 in the US goes for $1500-$2000 minimum. Frequently more if it's in nicer condition, has leather etc.Then again, 350 quid is about $1500 these days.

No leather, but almost 100% working electric seats, 100% working climate control and yes, it's got the exhaust hatch.I love the driving position too. Suits me well. Most modern cars try to swallow you in a world of plastic but it's all very spacious in the Alfa.Yes, I drove it to work today and yes, I do quite like it really. Lovely handling, gorgeous engine note. Nice.I've always lusted after 164s, but the Spider has never really appealed.

That's alright. I LOVE boat tailed Rivs, so you are excused! A chap just braved the weather to check out the Beemer, so that may be gone. Also had a contact about the Alfa so perhaps it'll be clear-out week! That'd be handy as the parking area is a bit too full at the moment. Well, that's my wife's view anyway. I reckon there's room for a couple more small ones...

Om nom nom! Exactly like that, and as I've just worked out we're currently paying $6.14/US gallon for fuel here I would guess that its fuel costs are roughly 2/3 what we'd spend running the Alfa. In those circumstances I would find it difficult to think of reasons not to have a MkIII Continental too!
