Our Mini came from this place a little further up the London Road

My dad bought a Montego estate (H567 MDA) from Bensons in 1999, which then occupied the right hand pitch of what is all now Johnsons of Leigh. At that time, Johnsons occupied the left hand pitch and later bought the next door business and expanded. The Monty was right at the back of the lot with a smashed back window (to be fixed for the asking) and wheelarches expertly* repaired with huge amounts of filler. He was taken out for a test drive by a salesman called Craig Benson, who looked exactly like Dominic Littlewood, and I believe was his half brother.

Our salesman was a twunt called Toby who singlehandedly confirmed to Mrs P that whilst the sales guys in NZ might be honest, some of their UK equivalents were very open to a bit of the old bullshit.

 

To be honest when the car imploded after three weeks and Toby took the attitude of "tough shit, what do you want me to do about it?", the Guvnor there was a very reasonable man once my letter quoting Sale of Goods act arrived on his doorstep.

Saw a shit ton of dive dealers near Croydon today. 

 

One even had a polished to within an inch of its life Rover 100 outside. Complete with green card cut into a zany pattern on the windscreen no doubt saying things like 'CHERISHED BY OLDER LADY' etc on it.

I snappend this in Lee - its on the A20 out of London which goes into Kent. Awaiting redevelopment. Was a car sales lot by the look of it.

On the left of the picture by the trees is the river quaggy which runs into the Ravensbourne River and then joins the Thames at Deptford Creek.
