Alfa FTP. AA cover question

Righto

It's not been a good car week this week. Good lady's Corsa is fubar with a shot starter and ignition switch. Not an issue really as we still have the Alfa. However, the Alfa has now decided to break a spring and cannot be driven as it now has the slammed look at the front. GS & BX are both no no's for various reasons!

Anyway, on my AA cover I have onward travel where they provide via whatever hire car company, a car if it cannot be fixed at roadside.

Does anyone know how this works? How do I get the car as I have no means of getting to a hire place.

I plan to call the AA first crack tomorrow so I get full benefit from the 72hr hire period. Don't need wheels today.

4 cars in the household and not one bugger works. I suppose that's a shitters lot!

The AA took me to a hire car place when I used it, equally hire car places do deliver if it's to a home address

That's what I'm sort of hoping. I don't want to be too late for work. That would be most terrible.

Can you remember what car hire company they took you to? Very little on line about this.

Guy at work had this and they used enterprise, it’s the closest one to here so don’t know if that was the reason or not.

As I understand it, AA man comes to have a look, decides he can't fix it and they then arrange a replacement car, think they deliver it.

Could take a while in all.

Minimum insurance excess on replacement car is £500 it seems.

Fairynuff. Either car delivered or taken to it wil be best. I'll report back with my findings.

AA will be called around 6am with the hope I get to work for 10 at the latest.

I would ring them this evening,  AA man will probably arrive before bedtime and can then arrange to collect you and car at 8am.  Car hire is unlikely to start on a Sunday evening unless they are really keen and Enterprise aren't that keen.

Good point. Just read this, and if I had earlier I may have done so. However I'm a boring old git and now all tucked up!

Agreed, whenever I have used this option, it takes bloody hours to sort out, great value, but I wouldn't bother just to get a vehicle for the commute!

A better option would be get a courtesy car off the garage who replace the springs?

Good luck whatever you do, waiting for the breakdown services to come out, assess the problem, ring back to base for a low-loader, then arrange a hire car the other side of town, can take up most of the day and your patience, bring a book ;)

Well that was a breeze.

Phoned AA about 6:15 they arrived at me by half 7 looked at car and declared recovery time. Got that sorted then took me to Enterprise car hire in Stirling where a 17 plate 999cc disastra was waiting for me. Got to work on time too!

Car colllected from my house shortly afterwards and delivered to garage. Just the painful bit of paying. I don't do springs. Always fear they will take my head off. That's one area where Hydro Citroens win.

Quite an easy process all in all. Top marks to AA.
