Thats more like it. Provenance is everything.

There's nothing like speaking to the guy who has driven it for 10 years or a sheaf of receipts from a specialist. The guy I got the Focus off had a quarter inch thick wad of Ford Dealer receipts. Thats service history not some eBay service book stamped up in Rymans on their dinner.

I use a redirect which goes to my number, I bought an 05534 number a while back for a voip system, never used it but on the control panel I can set it to forward to a number so I just do that.

the 2 most annoying things are, the screen on the NAV is broken so thats not easy to figure out how to tune radio etc in.. Presuming I can change it or is it programmed to the car?, second is the information display in the middle of the clocks is broken :( You can read it, but a lot of the text etc is broken up - have seen this on Audis etc too so I know its not just that display, I wonder if it can be replaced/repaired?

Or I guess it would mean a new instrument cluster.

The screen isn't coded to the car - it's just two connectors on the back and switch for a new one - all the actual gubbins (apart from the screen and cassette deck) are in the boot.  If you wanted to go really hardcore, there's a wider screen BMW version that apparently fits.

The highline computer display in the cluster can be repaired - there used to be a bloke calling himself Klarzy who did them on the 75/ZT forum but I think he's packed it in now.

Hmmmmmm interesting, the cassette deck im not particularly bothered about, but I use one of those bluetooth things that you tune into your radio. I cant seem to tune it in because I don't know whats on the screen!

As for the highline/lowline (which I think mine is) display, I imagine it would be easier to get a new set of clocks? If I presume they aren't coded. I'll lose the mileage but I can live with that.

BTW - that weird BMW setup means it's not a straight out swap for a standard DIN headunit - it can be done, but it it's more involved, not least as the radio aerial connection is in the boot.

I've found the NAV CD deck in the boot complete with Disk in it. No Idea whether it works! Have also got CD Changer in the glove box but it is without its bit you put the disks into.

Well swapped. The IPK i think it is called can be fixed, there is a chap on the owners club that does them. Looks like you have cruise as well.

Right, bit of a pain!

I wonder if I could just replace the NAV unit with another one, I wonder if they are coded to the car or some bizarre gubbins. I wonder if a second hand one would go in and just work.

Yes, though not sure how it works at the minute because I cant read a lot on the screen which I think I need to be able too to set the speed etc.

I left the Jag with my last Autoshite sticker, must order a new one!

This may help you. Don't have it on mine so not sure how to work it. Split pin on here has cruise on his so he may know too.

The clocks have an eprom coded to the car that contains the mileage and VIN - but apparently clocks from another car will work OK, just without correct miles.  I don't have personal experience - unlike with the stereo where I've actually fiddled with mine.

OK, well the clocks arent a biggie at the moment. Apparently the mileage is also stored in the secondary BUS module, which is part of the Headlight switch. Maybe I could get the info our of that if I decide to change the clocks. As for the radio I need to have a good think about what to do, Nothing worse than no tunes on a long journey!

You don't need screen to set cruise speed.  There's an oval button down on the centre console with a pic of a motorway on it that turns the cruise on and off - then the wheel controls will operate it (if it's working) - there's a light in the cluster to show it's on.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Nav.  It's very old school.  No touch screen, so you spend a lot of time twiddling knobs and pressing enter - no full postcode search and I'm not sure if there are any up to date maps.

There are Chinese DIN replacements that have a touch screen, NAV etc available - I had one in mine.  The Nav was good, but the radio reception was rubbish (it claimed to have RDS but didn't).

Ahh yes I wondered what that button was, located in the middle of my heated seats buttons ;)

Excellent thanks for that.

I see what you mean, I was thinking though If I got a replacement NAV unit by the time I've bought all the leads to put a 3rd party one in it'll be about the same price, and the NAV unit I presume would go straight in and work... Aslong as I can tune the radio into my bluetooth thingy. The second problem with that is, My Bluetooth thing is live in the ciggie lighter, permanently, in the Rover. Will have to remember to unplug it! In fact did I unplug it? shit... best go check!

Ill put it in my watching, might ask on a few of the groups too - before I buy one I want to make sure they arent coded to the car or something daft!

Not bad, I'll keep my eyes open! Ideally I'd like to change it to an Android one to update it a bit but will see what happens as that is not essential!

I really do want to make this car min internally, I might even look at getting the leather restored on the steering wheel as it is worn a bit!

Mileage is held in three places apparently - there seems to be disagreement about what happens when it's not the same in all three.  I think this is another area where it's similar to contemporary BMWs

There's a whole unit on the bay for £55 I don't think anyone's going to mend it for that or less.
