Mrs6C Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 I feel like I am getting nowhere as the updates are tiny but I do try to do something every day Time to call it Monday......................... Well done! Joloke and eddyramrod 2
danthecapriman Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Progress is progress no matter how seemingly insignificant.Trying to rush and do too much at a time just pisses you off and you make mistakes and get more frustrated. Do as much as you can, enjoy it (it’s a hobby after all!) and when your starting to lose interest or patience, stop. Have a break and come back to it later. Nice job on the chrome. It’s come up nicely. And yes, I’d agree, your washer motor looks quite fucked! eddyramrod, richardthestag and Joloke 3
vulgalour Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Spending time on this now will likely pay dividends later. You're learning as you're doing with these things so problem finding later gets easier because you know how things go together, how they were broken and how they wear. So none of this is really pointless. It's actually fairly impressive just how well many of the components have cleaned up with some effort, certainly wouldn't have expected the chrome on that stalk to smarten up so well. PhilA Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Very nice. Watch the pennies and the pounds look after themselves, just with parts and progress. Get some cream colored paint, clean the old gubbins out of the letters, paint in the letters and wipe over it with a rag. The paint needs to be moderately thick to work but it'll bring the wiper positions up nice. Bright white will stick out like the proverbial sore thumb so don't be tempted to use tippex. Works a treat, loads of colours and being enamel it’s nice thick hard wearing paint.I also used a tin of Humbrol Brunswick Green to paint a new section of metal brake pipe to give it a matching factory look! eddyramrod, Mrs6C and Joloke 3
Junkman Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Way too OCD for me. Joloke, richardthestag and danthecapriman 3

Mrs6C Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 The one on the left looks like a contender for the 'Y tho' thread... Uncle Jimmy, Joloke, richardthestag and 2 others 5
Guest Hooli Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Do these have an anti run on valve? if so it's possible that's no longer got power after the leccy work & would stop it starting. Joloke and Christine 2
JeeExEll Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Quick question Jo, has it run since the vids you posted on here around April 1st? (I don't think it has but just checking).
Mrs6C Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Y tho? youve lost me on that one? It is rather Mucky though its like a Thingamajiggywasit switch from the Titanic!http://autoshite.com/topic/26917-y-tho/page-12
JeeExEll Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Leave it running for ages, if it will. More fresh fuel. Joloke 1
DodgeRover Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Was it just gassed up? I'm guessing the auto electrician has probably never seen a car with a manual choke? Joloke 1
danthecapriman Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 So the guy actually came and did a job which made things worse and was a crap job anyway!? At least you know why now and can put it right though. Joloke 1
danthecapriman Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Mines been playing up lately, keeps flooding itself! That did make it stink of fuel, you could even smell it when driving around! It might be where you’ve been trying to start it with no joy, petrol has been getting pumped through and straight out the back without being burnt so it’s probably just that. It likely needs firing up and a good long run around really. eddyramrod and Joloke 2
vulgalour Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Is there a fuel pump access plate under the back seats? If so, is it sealed? It could be something like the access plate being loose or missing and normal tank vent fumes going into the cabin instead of outside, made worse when it's running because the fuel is circulating. I am guessing here of course because I don't know how these are set up. Joloke 1
PhilA Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Stanky of fuel at idle is expected (exhaust too cool for fuel to flash and burn in pipe so rich mix will be exhausted) Stanky of fuel behind following along is moderately expected (exhaust too cool still but should be better as engine speed and load should be high enough for cam duration to be acceptable for decent burn) Stanky of fuel under full throttle wrong, that should then be stanky of burned fuel (all fuel burns, not necessarily in cylinders) It's a seventies Ford with most of the emissions bamf removed. It will smell. That's part of the charm. Get worried when it's dripping black muck from the exhaust. Spark plug inspection after a number of miles will give indication of mixture correctness. MorrisItalSLX Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Try wrapping the sandpaper around somthing thin and hard, tiny flat head screwdriver for example, and shoving it in the female end. Junkman and Joloke 2
