:D do you ever think you'll invest in a mk 3 pre smiley transit? I can imagine these becoming alot rarer in years to come....

I am tryin not to! All the rust of a Mk2, without the ascetic appeal!

Haha :D Yeh, the Mk 3 and any generation afterwards all seem to have lost that appeal, and are alot less desirable. Still I can imagine in 2020 a new bbc drama with loads of royal mail and grey piper BT Mk 3 transits rolling around. Speaking of rust i have seen quite a few Mk 5s lately with the signs of oncoming rust problems, particularly around the sills underneath and next to the front doors.

We run at lot of 02-03 reg TDCi Transits buses at the Docks were i work as buses to and from our machines, The ones we have have rusty doors already.Mind you most haven't even got a straight panel, Dash boards have been smashed up, Gearboxes that crunch with knackered syncos, services light on all the time and running in limp mode but they are run 24/7 starting and stopping at least 30 times a day each.Even the newest ones which he have had for about 6 months now which is about a 04 reg with 30k (the number plates are removed and replaced with asset numbers) which has electric windows, Twin airbags etc are trashed inside and one even got smashed up the day after we got it.

It is possible the rusty Transits are from Turkey, or are they all shit? Mind you I have to say I've never seen a rusty Connect yet!I always thought early Mk3s (C-J reg) had the longest lasting paintwork of any Transit, certainly rotted a lot less quickly than the Mk1/2s.

Currently I think the Mk5s are the most shocking, with them being worse than the Mk2s. my mate and sub contract driver had his failed the MOT on 3 pages worth, including welding to stuff like seat belt mounts. The Mk2 he's currently borrowing off us went through it's last MOT with far far less welding, and is a whole decade older. Believe it or not the early Mk1s are the best, they are made of thicker metal.Transits on sale currently are made at Southampton, but not for much longer.Unbelievably I have heard of rust coming through on 06 transits, and Ford don't give a toss.
