Clearing the cat on '02 Volvo V70

According to my local Volvo specialist, the cat on my FIL's 2002 pez V70 is blocked, causing the engine light to stay on. They've used some sort of cleaner and advised him to give it an Italian tune-up. He passed this task on to me, as he's away.

 

Any excuse to take someone else's car and fuel, for a burn-up.

 

Anyway, I did a 110-mile round trip yesterday, gearbox locked in 3rd, so 4500rpm at 65mph or thereabouts. The light's still on.

 

Any thoughts on an alternative Italian tune-up technique, or is the cat finished?

Is there space in the pipe to get a breaker bar/ jack handle in and smash the innards of the cat out of it?? If so Problem solved
