This weekend - Classic rallying lickedy split! Now with videos

Events - this weekend sees the running of the Roger Albert Clark rally, which tries to replicate the RAC rallies of days gone by.

It also sees the running of HERO's Rally of the Tests, which technically started today.

I'm thinking, Saturday:- I could travel roughly 2 hours to see multiple Escorts - an the occasional Saab 96 - avoid being parked, roughly, in a Shepherdshield ditch, and then on Sunday, I could go 5 or so miles down the road from Wetherby Services to watch Triumph TRs, Jaguars, Porsches, a Bentley, Volvos, Lancias, an a Maxi - if they've all made it that far - leave a time control just off of the A1 on their way to a competitive section at Harewood hillclimb.

Anyone fancy a meetup somewhere, this weekend?

Looks good, but I'm too poor and busy this weekend.

I really need to start going to classic rallies and see real cars used properly, I've got no interest in the modern stuff.

Posted

I might have to float over to Ladybower on Friday, just the other end of the Snake to me.

Posted

Oddly enough, I was thinking of going to Ladybower too - and shooting a couple of rolls of film.

Posted

Are they in action at Ladybower or just driving through?

Posted

I think it's a time control, so non-competitive.

Edit: looks like it's between two TCs but if there's time needed to be made up there could be some GLF.

Ta, I wasn't sure reading the info above.

Mmm now some of this isn't a million miles from me and I do love a bit of rallying...

Was planning the NEC this Saturday but....

Well I've been at Ladybower since about 11am, I've just spoken to 4 chaps from Co.Durham who arrived at 10.45am, and we've seen NAE RALLYCARS. The Facebook page and the live event page have said nothing about this, so we have to assume that they've re-routed it but not bothered to tell anyone who might want to spectate.

Posted

I gave up at Ladybower, started heading home, then saw a marshals' post - the course car's been through & I'm waiting for them in a twisty regularity!

More in detail in a bit, plus some vide-o when I get it uploaded, but have a screenshot* of a Stanza rally car for the time being...!

*Photos may take 2 weeks to upload - I've got to finish the film off first.

Time for a few videos, I apologise in advance or the overenthusiasm at the end of the Stanza one, and also for the shonkiness of them - I've taken to watching thing as they happen, and hoping the videos come out ok.

Edit:  if you do get around to watching them I was joined at my vantage point by another spectator, and, yes, that Range Rover in the las frames of the Stanza video is involved in "The Hunt" that appears in later videos.  Considering this was a regularity section, i.e. timed, it won't have helped.

Its a brave or stupid person that goes out for a hack on a horse along a rally route.

Posted

As a matter of driving style I would prefer to enter the corner wide and exit on the correct side of the road. Gives you maximum visibilty through the corner. Are they all beginners?

Posted

The regularity sections are driven on open roads and so competitors have to deal with normal traffic and the like, so caution has to prevail.  As to the horses thing, they had no idea the rally was coming through and behaved as if they owned the roads anyway.

Will be driving from Bournemouth to Fife tomorrow, I'll see what time I get to the border and how I feel, might stop for a stage on the way up.
