Removing door pin it's stuck solid any advice.

Well it's not really a door pin as such but the safety pin that stops the door opening too wide.

The front door pin came out easily with a little tap of a plastic tipped hammer but the rear door pin seems to have got stuck about half way and just won't budge to fit the new doors to my car and wondered if there's something I'm doing wrong.post-9282-0-06251200-1508843020_thumb.jpeg

I've gone down the plusgas and hitting it harder route but it won't budge.

Sorry, with Mr_Bo11ox here.  Make sure the drift you hit it with isn't actually spreading it.  You should be able to thump that back easily and put some oil on it so it flies out.

I had to do the Viva doors many years ago.  Solid mild steel pin, just totally solid in there.  Rebuilt the hinges totally so that they could use a roll pin and be bolted on.  Didn't take long (yeah right).  But it worked!

Can you get a pair of mole grips on it & twist & pull it off?

Another option is to hacksaw the top part of the pin off and hammer the fucker downwards so it leaves the other way.

(Assuming you were tapping it upwards when it got stuck?)

I managed to get the B£?€$#% out in the end by walking away and having a cup of tea then coming back 10 minutes later with a bigger metal ended hammer and it popped straight out.

I did cover the area with a bit of masking tape first so I didn't damage any paint though.

Thanks for the help guys if it wasn't for you lot my car would be in bits all over the drive.

Aye, those spring pins can be utter bees. Spring steel, so tough as old boots. You need a drift that is a perfect fit, too small and it just goes down the middle and wedges the bugger open when it really needs to be squeezed. Hence mole wrench tactic mentioned above might* be a good idea.  Worst combination I've seen is them holding aluminium handles onto stainless shafts.

Glad you got it out. You can get stainless steel ones on ebay for not much coin.

Glad it's out now.

I have had trouble with roll pins in the past. On Mini Metro, I was driving along when the roll pin that holds the gear linkage in fell out! I was in top gear and had to drive home about 10 mile trying not to stop.

When I took the engine and gearbox out of my 1275GT and wanted to disconnect the same linkage, it took me several evenings worth of belting it with various hammers and punches until it came out!

The proper tool for this makes it a doddle - well worth £25 or so if you will do the job more than once. You thread a small pin through the centre of the roll pin, secure with a nut then hammer a horizontal bar to tap the whole thing out.

Don't ever try to remove the hinge pins from a capri door.....
