Inverted racing shite

It's the 1000km touring car race at Mount Panorama this weekend.  Enjoy some vids from back when they used proper cars, when men were men and kangaroos were nervous, etc...

Epic, unique race. Fond memories of the late 70s/early 80s races on the telly.

How can I watch it without subscribing to owt? We don't have telly so would have to be on computer.

Paging Junkman...

At 2:58 in the '67 race, look what's rolling through The Cutting on its way up towards Reid Park...

Yup, on a proper track too.

Haven't watched it for years though as doesn't seem to be on terrestrial TV anymore (used to be on BBC).

When I was a lad...

I forgot just how hairy chested some of this racing was! Epic!

I shall not be attending this year, its not really my scene when it comes to the type of people attending. (Bogans)

The track is a public road the rest of the year, 30 kph speed limit though...

^^ Bit of topic but how do you pronounce Bogan? (That's basically an Aussie version of what we call chavs).

Is it Bo-gan or Bog-an?  Daft question but I just want to know.

It's Bo-gan, they are a cross between chavs (which I just googled) and red-necks

^^That sounds like a truly obnoxious combination!

Thank you for that (I wasn't taking the piss, i was curious). Sorry, should have explained what a chav is. Understand your desire to avoid them, I'd do the same.

Does the guy racing the Nissan go through the 'top of the mountain' in a hail of beer cans...?

Thanks for posting........ spent most of my day listening to this in the background as I worked (had to keep checking on the Triumph 2000 though of course).

Love the way they had the drivers chatting away live on TV! Today they'd have kittens as it would surely meant those kittens, held by nuns, would be killed because of distraction etc.. etc... They drivers were very gentlemanly too...... fair play.

Can you imagine todays drivers commenting as they roared through this? Or being so 'benevolent' with other drivers poor luck/maladies....

Rovers in the lead........ 1st and 2nd places........ I'm now googling SD1 Bathurst etc......

EDIT - Just got to the Mazda RX7 part - bloke in Belgium car park and robbing the gear off it - FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC! Had to LOL

I'd have almost overslept this, thanks for the heads up!

After Le Mans this is the only 'real' race that interests me nowadays (apart from the king class of motorsports obv., BriSCA F1).

I wonder how long the Commodores and Falcons will last into the future?

One of my favourite races and I've even attended it twice. in 2004 as a significant birthday present to myself and in 2007 when I won a free flight to Sydney courtesy of Qantas. Brilliant track, had to drive my hire cars around it and I didn't speed at all, honestly occifer. Even managed to sort of hassle a Scubaru into giving way after he kept braking going down the mountain, the wuss. They were being pretty strict with the bogans, vehicles were being thoroughly searched, excessive amounts of booze confiscated etc. Excellent museum there too. Thoroughly recommended, if you get a chance to go do it.

Interesting question Mr Junkman, I know that they are developing a twin turbo V6 Commodore for the series but as we know sadly production by Ford and Holden has ceased. I believe that the governing body will be allowing 4 and 6 pot cars into the series so the days of it being V8 Supercars only are numbered.

I would say more red-neck than Chav, NZ's nearest equivalent would be a Westie I guess. Apparently, despite my appreciation of Aussie built muscle cars, I'm excluded from being in any of these groups due to having too many of my own teeth (in my mouth).

Is it only me who read it as the "Superheap 1000" at first glance?

Not getting to grips with the website, because dementia.

When is the race UK time and where watch I it?
