While browsing idly, I came across this Instagram picture from a recovery firm

Even more idly, I then had a look at what other stuff they were picking up....Hmm, interesting

25th October 2016 must have been a slow news day in Prestwich...

Not seen an Alfa 75 in white before, always seem to be red or black.

The XR4i is probably a scrapper, looks like no engine if the height of the front is an indicator. Like the Cossie wheels though.

...some of the firms, here at any rate, advertising 'free scrap car collections' are just after that rare barn/garden  classic car find; ring them up about an enginless b6 Passat n the don't want to know - it seems the diesel costs vs the scrap weight, just doesn't pay in terms of 'economic viability'...

Often im stuck with a an old shell/car that's been partially stripped, that feral cats are living in round the front of the house that I haven't got round to bothering weighing in - they can fester for a few weeks or months... anyways, I got a call from a mate who also has a few donor car carcasses round; he rang me this morning to ask if I nneded anything outta the remains of a vw caddy mk2; theres a truck operator who collects scrap 'if its on his way home from work', and into a 'community scrap bin' in a volunteers yard- the money goes to community charities n causes - I thought it was a great idea, when he was explaining it all; started 6 months or so ago...

That's always been my impression of most of these outfits too. Hoping that some old widow doesn't know the value of 'That old car' her late hubby had, wants to get shot of it for free/little money.

Surely that truck is going to be overloaded on the rear axle with a Caprice/XJ6 on the back?

Posted

Aye. Not very inspired by cars being the wrong way around either. IIRC, anything over about 1200kg runs the risk of overloading a 3.5 tonner, depending on how light the body manages to be.

You'd have to go through a lot of shifting bags of shit Astras of driveways before you came across someone asking to pay to take away a 1977 Cortina.
