Lend me your shite. Anyone in Edinburgh?

I don't post a lot here (in fact, haven't in ages), so expecting someone to trust me with their shite is a bit of a stretch, but nevertheless, I will ask anyway:

Does anyone here live within striking distance of Edinburgh airport, and have some shite / a second car  that they might let me rent off them to make a few quid?  I have to come up to Edinburgh in the next couple-or-three-weeks to do some work for a few days, and normally I would hire a car for the duration.  Which means I end up with a miserable-spec Focus or Astra 1.6 pile-of-shit from the rental company at the airport, and it's about as interesting and fun as driving a bowl of cold sick.

Now, I can claim fairly reasonable expenses for "private mileage", so could do so for any miles done in the area in your motah (likely to be around a few hundred over the course of 2-3 days) and pay you for the use of your shite.

It's a long shot, but as many people say... if you don't ask, you don't know.

I have the perfect vehicle.

Actually, it's the only one that I don't care enough about to lend to a stranger. I'm in Dunfermline.

That is several kinds of excellent! If that's a genuine offer, we'll have to see how things are when I actually have a travel date.

Don't know AS Bike isn't doing a lot just now but it is an hour and a half from Edinburgh so probably not worth the bother!

It is probably the only offer you're likely to get.

Which is unsurprising to be honest.  It's a big ask for someone generally unknown to the forum to just pop up and say "trust me with your prized autoshite!"

I'm intrigued as to your Tata.  That's a Loadbeta isn't it?  Was that the vehicle with a longitudinal XUD engine, but with a rather odd displacement?

Just up near Forfar?  Having lived in Dundee before now (over 20 years ago now) I remember that area as being very lovely.  But yes, it's a fair distance from Edinburgh, although I very much appreciate the offer!

There really are some very kind people in AS.

Why don't you go and ask the same question on another well, known motoring forum ;)  ... (PH)

There's a good reason I asked here and not on the Pissed-on-heads forum!

I realised a while back that I really should be more active on this forum as it's far more up my street than most motoring forums/groups on the interwebz. Not had the chance recently though due to Mortgage/Marriage/Small people and various other life-changing events.   Losing my 15-car driveway and double garage and having everything on the road now has had a rather disasterous effect too.

and yes, there are some very kind people on AS.  After FOAD's exceptionally kind offer of his Tata above, I've been wasting shitloads of time multitasking at work reading a number of recent threads, particularly the epic Rover Weldathon that he's valiantly attempted recently.

I did wonder.. as I have to be in Edinburgh for a few days, if I changed my plans from flying up and hiring/borrowing/begging/thieving a vehicle for a few days, to driving up all the way, I could bring a flatbed trailer with me and offer delivery of the Rover collander to anyone south of FOAD (which is a healthy % of the population) as my work would be paying for the miles.....

Talbot, sounds like a mighty fine plan to help out our fine AutoShiters.
