MPG shite

I never got less than 50 mpg from my (NA) BX Estate. (Measured tank full to tank full) so 50 odd mpg for a 305 van sounds perfectly reasonable.

I kept scrupulous records as it was a company car and the firm's first Diesel car and first "foreign" car.

They took some persuading to buy it for me rather than the usual Cavalier or Sierra and I had to keep the fuel record so that the transport manager had some data to hide behind if the BX had been a failure.

It wasn't.

They kept it as a hack for years after it was "retired" and the MD used it for duty-free runs to Calais.

My wife's Fiat 500 does 80mpg at a constant 70mph! It can get 85mpg around 60mph. Wish my old Beemer could do that.

I've never had that much but my Panda (poor relation, granted) averages 69-72mpg every tankful.  That's not babying it, that's A-roads, B-roads, stop, start, traffic, trips to Tesco etc.

It has the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine.

It's a bit embarrassing to drive, but whatevs.

To be fair my figures are on a run on motorways, average is closer to 60mpg but that is 80% town driving at least. Still amazes me though that a petrol engine can get 85mpg at a decent speed. Engine feels nice and responsive too, it's no slug.

I managed to get mine down to 59mpg on a 50 mile run at the weekend. That was 85mph all the way on the, uh, private motorway I used and then foot flat on the floor tearing its arse off round the lanes. Genuinely, that's the lowest I've managed to get it and it was hard work!

My new personal best, and the road in and out of Lincoln isn't the flattest place on this planet.
