can you find a fucked baleno and rape it for engine duties

The natural upgrade path for the Wizzkid is a Suzki Alto 1.1 (2003 to 2006) with the F10D engine, because what you want stamped on your engine cover is '16-Valve Maruti'

It is also the only fuel injection update of the F10A that the car currently has.

That's the one :) Nice cheap engine donor too as it would make sense to buy a whole car and get everything you need if you went down that route

Nah a bike engine in a road going SC100 is just not right, sure it looks cool but the car has to be butchered to get it in and then you don't have a conventional gearbox. 50% extra power would make this thing a real hoot and you can stick with the original drivetrain and brakes. It's Julian's do what he wants with though and I am excited to see it being worked on and ultimately back on the road!

Garage door now fixed.
I took it off on one side, propped it on a load of plastic stacking crates. Screwed the wooden frame back together with some cheap metal brackets and hammered the door back on.
A bit of lube on all the joints and it works again. Not perfect but good enough, the side I fixed now seems a lot more rigid than the other side.

Also, the battery that James gave me is good and has been trickle charged up for getting sparks.

Lets say for example that your Suzuki was not starting because the bit in the distributor was being as much use in providing as spark as a wet fart in a hurricane.

You phone Aldon Automotive, suppliers of things like this and ask them if they have a counter open on a Saturday.

'Not this Saturday mate, what you trying to fix?'

'I'm trying to work out if an ignition unit inside a dizzy is dead or not, I only get open circuit.'

'You want to line it up with a bulb, knock it across 12v, turn the dizzy, if the bulb does the light house dance then it's good.'

So today I made a test rig.

1 bulb on 3.3 Ohms, for high resistance coil sim

2 bulbs on (parallel) 1.9 Ohms, for low resistance coil sim

Yes my soldering is that shit

It's dark and wet now, testing can wait till tomorrow.

They are the guys that converted it to electronic ignition originally and they came highly recommended. Not sure how long the warranty was on it but maybe worth giving them a ring if it really is broken.

Tests completed, distributor electrics very dead. It was passing no current even with 12.5V hooked up across the terminals. I will be contacting HH in the morning.

Ok interesting, I wonder what has caused it to fail. I was planning on possibly using them again at some point in the future to convert another dizzy but depending on what caused this one to break I might not bother.

I haven't posted here for ages so have a quick catch up.

1. I sent the dizzy to HH they said all was well

2. I started a garage share in Tamworth with a few other shiters got the Wizzkid transported

post-17488-0-60093700-1523808182_thumb.jpg

3. I tried wiring a second battery to the electronic dizzy in case it needed more volts than the Wizzkid could provide while turning a starter.

I also added some much needed fresh fuel to the tank.

It still didn't want to make a spark.

Spot the epic wiring skills

4. Finally I bit the bullet and ordered a new old school, clockwork, dizzy from India, it arrived yesterday.

My initial timing was early by 30 degrees (one tooth on the helix), then I realised what I had done and got.

So there is some joints in the exhaust that are a bit more farty than they should be but stage one of the Wizzkid revival is complete.

I'm pleased to see a Wizzkid on Autoshite. They're so rare now and are such cheeky little things. I really like them and have done so since I was small myself.

While looking for something else I stumbled across this post on Retro Rides, featuring your SC100 and Heidel_Kakao, not long after he bought it:

http://forum.retro-rides.org/post/1296954/thread

It currently shares workshop space with HK's Datsun.

This afternoon I went to the workshop to list up what I need for an MOT on the Whizzkid.

I ended up with a shorter fix list than expected but, in the process I have now got an electrical short that is popping ignition fuses.

Lots of footage taken with a cheap camera, so expect a video link soonish.

Lets try this...

How is the fuel tank , they rot like ........  , ours did , we had to have it repaired twice , and you could see lots of little rust mites on the inside looking for daylight ..

they are fun to drive ...thats about it ...

best bit was that engine service cover behind the back seat ..

I haven't looked too closely at the fuel tank yet. However, given the quality of the rest of the metal, I am hopeful.

We have a 2 post lift, but it is currently in bits. Once that is together then the underside of the car will get a good hard stare.

It's service the Renault day so I'm happy heading to shitefest and beyond.

So the usual oil, oil filter, air filter and a plan to replace the rear brake pads as the current ones make noise that they shouldn't.

Jack up front of car, locate hole in the undertray to get to drain plug and try to find an allen key to fit, none do. Try some of those torx things, nope.

Take a picture of the hole that I am trying to put things in, to see what the correct shape is, bugger.

post-17488-0-80490800-1526234034_thumb.jpg

Fortunately I had left the backup plan in the workshop. Which cleared over 3 litres of old oil out the sump.

Aldi oil pump to the rescue.

post-17488-0-32873400-1526234042_thumb.jpg

I thought the oil filter was going to be a pain to remove as they almost always are in my experience

post-17488-0-18328400-1526234054_thumb.jpg.

but no, with the right tool it moved very easily and the appropriate replacement was inserted.

post-17488-0-88795100-1526234061_thumb.jpg

next top up with oil, 3.5 litres in the engine and a hundred mil all over the engine cover.

post-17488-0-25967900-1526234070_thumb.jpg

now for the air filter, does it go in this nicely accessable box here?

post-17488-0-82405200-1526234077_thumb.jpg

No, it goes in this sod behind the engine.

post-17488-0-78516500-1526234083_thumb.jpg

Where you have to squeeze it though a gap left several mm too small in every dimension for the filter to go in, by the thoughtful designer.

post-17488-0-72716200-1526234095_thumb.jpg

So with the basics done, I turned to the brakes to see if new pads would be a cheap fix for the noise.

What I found was that the current pads where only a mm off new as the previous owner had already tried that bodge.

The problem is the very past it's best disk which are £120 a pair, bugger.

Depends if you need the pads;)

Do they fit then?

I have not one but two sets of good pads, I just need one pair of good discs and a full vocab of Anglo-Saxon swear words.

A bit more pre-shitefest planning saw me get a pair of new disks for the Megane.

So I drove it to the workshop, took off the old disk and swore.

The expensive disks have the ABS rings attached, the very expensive disks also come with bearings in place.

My disks were cheap and so had neither of these optional* extras.

Fortunately Tommotech has the power, skill and a big press.

So bits were switched over, saving me a small fortune.

post-17488-0-30004600-1527614971_thumb.jpg

New disk looks shiny on the car

post-17488-0-27290400-1527614976_thumb.jpg

A definite improvement on the old shite and much thanks to Tommotech for skills, advice and equipment. A few tweaks still needed on this baby GT but, it's nicer than when I bought it.

Expect this to be up for summer roffle though folks as I have too many cars, not enough time. I like to keep it, but reality is giving me a hard stare.

I also played with the Wizzkid a bit and got the timing back into making the car run, as well as getting the dizzy into the midrange area of timing adjustment ready for fine tuning.

p.s. I also found out what the 30mm socket is for in the Halfords box of big toys, it's the one for undoing the bearing cover.
