I'd been meaning to post these up for the last few weeks, but better late than never! As a show there was the usual collection of stationary engines, and the same cars you see on the 'show circuit' anywhere you go. So I only took photos of vehicles which stood out to me:

Let's articulate!

Hundreds of tractors, which my wife filled up her memory card with

The undoubted star of the show for me though, was this BBC outside broadcast unit

We'd seen it the previous year, when they'd finished the mechanical and cosmetic restoration, and were hoping to get at least some of the electronics working in the future. So we were hopeful of seeing it come to life a little, especially when we saw a couple of cameras outside.

A closer look and it seems to be working!

Unfortunately there was a moving band on the display, which I've caught on the photo. We then had a look inside:

Tape recorder

Working monitor with nixie tubes showing which camera was live

And then in the main body of the truck:

Pretty lights!

They'd got the whole thing functional enough to actually serve as a broadcast unit for a TV programme it appeared on! I was chatting to them about the cameras and how the technology has moved on - in those days most of the electronics were in the vehicle with only the bare minimum at the 'head' end (although that was still huge). Consequently the camera was linked by 100+ core cables, which they could extend something like a mile.

Nice one, that BBC van is fascinating. Incidentally if you're about, this is a decent show and there's usually a lot of vintage tractors as well as steam engines and trucks and the odd car and motorbike. The BBC was there the other year too, I think...

I seem to recall seeing a van like that parked up somewhere in Wiltshire Or Somerset. If it's the same one, that's amazing!

I saw that at a show in Shropshire last year, fantastic isn't it?

You probably did see the same one, as I recall one of the chaps with it saying it's the only roadworthy one left.

It's based in Chester so very likely the same. To be honest I'd have quite happily paid the admission fee just to have looked round that for a couple of hours!

I think the green truck belongs to a guy over the road from my work, he's got a massive collection of stuff like that

WoW... !!! NOW.... that BBC o.b. truck is a 'national/technology heritage' exhibit.

Shit loads of LottoCash would have been wheeled past it [en route to an LBG 'direct action' conference] whilst the lads in the garage were deciding whether the recently fitted tyres would make much on eBay before 'chopping it' :(

.... yes folks >> only in Britain, Eh?
